A method of emitting a volatile material includes the step of programming a volatile material dispenser to include at least two intensity levels, wherein upon initiation of each of the intensity levels for an operating cycle, a resistor is operated at a first percentage of its power rating for a first period of time. Upon selection of a first of the at least two intensity levels and after the first period of time, the resistor is operated at a second percentage of its power rating for a remainder of an operating cycle. Upon selection of a second of the at least two intensity levels and after the first period of time, the resistor is operated at the second percentage of its power rating for a second period of time and, after the second period of time, operating the resistor at a third percentage of its power rating for a remainder of an operating cycle.

An electrically operated diffuser has a fragrance-emitting element () for facilitating diffusion of an active material, and at least one light emitting diode (). The at least one light emitting diode () serves as a nightlight and has a luminous intensity rating of at least about 5000 mcd at 20 mA. Also, the at least one light emitting diode () may be positioned at a back surface of the diffuser, such that when an active material is received in the compartment the at least one light emitting diode () shines through the active material. The diffuser may include a remote-use assembly to supply power to the diffuser from a wall socket remote from the diffuser. The diffuser may also include a light controller to change one or more of the color and the intensity of the at least one light emitting diode ().

A system for detecting a container or contents of the container. The system includes a diffuser for retaining the container, where the container is configured to hold an active material therein and may include a wick extending therefrom. The system further includes a sensor positioned to detect, for example, the container retained in the diffuser and/or the contents of the container retained in the diffuser.

The present invention is directed toward apparatuses, devices, methods, kits, programs, and combinations to disperse and/or project light. For example, in one embodiment of the present invention where a light effect of glowing, diffuse, and projected light is desired, one lens is provided that diffuses light in one section of the lens and is substantially clear in another section to allow substantially all the light to pass through the lens. In other embodiments to obtain the same effect, one or more lenses diffuse light while one or more other lenses are clear to allow substantially all the light to pass through the lens.

A manually operable dispensing pump for use with a primary container containing a primary fluid, the pump having a body containing a sprayer mechanism and having a primary attachment means for attaching to the primary container and secondary attachment means for attaching to a secondary container having contents to be co-dispensed with the primary fluid. The secondary container is attachable by the secondary attachment means directly to the body at a location remote from the primary container. The secondary container has a holding chamber for holding selected contents and an outlet that provides immediate communication between the holding chamber and the sprayer mechanism when the secondary container is attached to the body so that contents of the secondary container can pass immediately into a mixing chamber in the body to be mixed with primary fluid pumped from the primary container. The mixing chamber contents are then discharged from the pump. Preferably, the secondary container is detachable. A detachable secondary container to be used with the pump is also disclosed.

Refill insert for a device for dispensing volatile substances

A dispensing device for dispensing a volatile active ingredient from an air-transmitting substrate that forms a part of a refill assembly. The dispensing device includes a housing with an intake vent and an exit vent and an air flow path extending between them. Refill assembly support means are provided for removably supporting the refill assembly with its substrate located in the air flow path. Battery-powered fan means are provided for propelling air from the intake vent through the substrate and out the exit vent. A battery holder holds a fan battery in such a manner that a refill assembly not fully inserted within the refill assembly support means blocks the placement of a battery in the battery holder, while a battery correctly held in the battery holder blocks the removal from the air flow path of a refill assembly supported by the refill assembly support means. Thus, successful placement of a battery in the battery holder serves to both verify and maintain the correct placement of the refill assembly in the air flow path. An air-transmitting refill assembly for use with the dispensing device includes an air-transmitting substrate and a tab attached to the margin of the substrate. The tab has a brace surface facing generally away from the substrate and shaped to engage the surface of a battery being held within the battery holder of the dispensing device.

An interconnected lock assembly for use on a door includes a first latch adapted to be positioned in a first bore in the door and a second latch adapted to be positioned in a second bore in the door, spaced from the first bore. There is an outside operating member operably connected to the first latch for causing operation thereof and there is an inside operating member operably connected to the first latch for also causing operation thereof. There is an interconnecting mechanism operably connected to the inside operating member and to the second latch. The interconnecting mechanism is effective to cause operation of the second latch when the first latch is operated by the inside operating member. The interconnecting mechanism is adjustable as to length to accommodate variant spacing between the first and second bores.

A door assembly having a cylinder plug tailpiece including a swivel latch with passageways, such swivel and passageways being located so that assembly of lock tailpieces cannot be assembled out of phase. The passageways have frangible ends to assist in assembly and permit installation of the assembly on a narrow door. The assembly has temporary assembly arrangement including spring clip-groove pieces that accomplish temporary attachment of assembly halves during installation.
