Communication tool for accessing a non annular hydraulic chamber of a subsurface safety valve

A communication tool () includes a housing () having recesses () and a set of axial locating elements () radially extendable through the recesses () and engagably positionable within a profile of a tubing retrievable safety valve (). An anti rotation device () is radially outwardly extendable relative to the housing (). The anti rotation device () operably engages the tubing retrievable safety valve () to substantially prevent relative rotation between at least a portion of the communication tool () and the tubing retrievable safety valve (). A cutting tool () is radially outwardly extendable relative to the housing (). The cutting tool () is operable to create a fluid passageway () between a non annular hydraulic chamber () and an interior the tubing retrievable safety valve ().

A tubing retrievable safety valve () having a non annular hydraulic chamber () in a sidewall portion thereof is operable to received a communication tool () therein such that relative rotation between at least a portion of the communication tool () and the tubing retrievable safety valve () is substantially prevented. The communication tool () is operable to create a fluid passageway () between the non annular hydraulic chamber () and the interior of the tubing retrievable safety valve () by penetrating through the sidewall portion and into the non annular hydraulic chamber (). Thereafter, when a wireline retrievable safety valve () is positioned within the tubing retrievable safety valve (), hydraulic fluid is communicatable thereto through the fluid passageway ().

Subsurface safety valve having a communication tool accessible non annular hydraulic chamber

One embodiment of the present disclosure describes a test assembly including an inflatable packer. An internal control sleeve controls flow of drilling fluid through an inflation port to inflate and deflate the packer. A shifting tool run on a slick line moves the sleeve. The packer has one end attached to an external sliding sleeve which moves upon packer inflation to expose a formation fluid port through which formation testing is performed. After testing and packer deflation, a circulation port may be opened to recover produced fluids up the drill string. A second sleeve controls flow through the circulation port and is controlled by a second shifting tool run on slick line. Other embodiments include a circulation assembly with a sliding sleeve opened and closed by one shifting tool to control circulation and the sliding sleeve itself and its operation.

Apparatus and method for gravel packing a horizontal open hole production interval

The present invention provides a packer releasing tool for releasing a packer from a wellbore where the packer is coupled to a tubing string and has a releasing profile with a packer uphole shoulder and a packer downhole shoulder. The packer releasing tool preferably comprises a toplock assembly removably coupled to a downlock assembly. It also includes a toplock key that is movably coupled to the toplock assembly and that has a toplock key profile engageable against the packer releasing profile. Also present is a downlock lug that is movably coupled to the downlock assembly and that has a downlock lug profile engageable against the packer releasing profile. In one embodiment, the packer releasing tool has an outer diameter that is less than the inner diameter of the tubing string. This unique configuration allows the packer to be pulled without the need of first removing the production string.

Packer releasing tool and method for releasing a packer assembly from a wellbore

In an oilfield wireline tool string, a self-contained downhole power unit is positioned at a designated working location and mechanical jars cut shear pins retaining an activating mandrel so as to displace a valve seat and open a mechanically actuated valve. This valve admits well pressure to a pressure-sensing switch in the downhole power unit to initiate its operation.

Apparatus and method for downhole tool actuation

A pressure activated valve and associated methods of using same provide increased functionality and convenience in actuating a tool operatively positioned within a subterranean well. In a described embodiment, a switch valve is utilized to control actuation of a downhole power unit. The switch valve is configured to cause actuation of a switch within the downhole power unit in response to a differential fluid pressure. The differential fluid pressure is created by applying pressure to the interior of a tubing string to which the valve is attached.

A retrievable well lock for use within a subterranean member is used in cooperation with a tool for setting the lock. The lock will include an actuation assembly which is operable in response to longitudinal movement between portions of the lock. The setting tool will preferably include a power source within a housing assembly which can be selectively coupled to or decoupled from the lock assembly. The power source is associated with the setting tool through an activation assembly which will cause movement of a movable mandrel within the setting tool facilitating the selective actuation of the lock.
