A method of creating an optical atom trap comprises the steps of providing an incoherent light field with a light source apparatus, by creating a pulsed laser light beam of laser pulses with a repetition rate equal to or above 100 kHz and a relative spectral width of 10to 10, coupling the pulsed laser light beam to an input end of a multimode waveguide device and guiding the pulsed laser light beam by total internal reflection to an output end of the multimode waveguide device, wherein the incoherent light field is provided at the output end, and creating the optical atom trap for trapping atoms in an atom trap chamber device by coupling the incoherent light field to the atom trap chamber device, wherein the optical atom trap has a trap frequency and the atoms have multiple resonance frequencies, and the laser pulses for providing the incoherent light field are created such that the repetition rate is above the trap frequency and the spectral width is below a spectral range between the resonance frequencies. Furthermore, an optical atom trap apparatus for optically trapping atoms is described.

Method of creating an optical atom trap and atom trap apparatus, employing an incoherent light field

An optical resonator device () with crossed cavities, in particular being configured for optically trapping atoms, comprises a first linear optical resonator () extending between first resonator mirrors (A,B) along a first resonator light path () and supporting a first resonator mode, a second linear optical resonator () extending between second resonator mirrors (A,B) along a second resonator light path () and supporting a second resonator mode, wherein the first and second resonator light paths () span a main resonator plane, and a carrier device carrying the first and second resonator mirrors (A,B,A,B), wherein the first and second resonator mirrors () are arranged such that the first and second resonator modes cross each other for providing an optical lattice trap () in the main resonator plane. The carrier device comprises a monolithic spacer body () being made of an ultra-low-expansion material and comprising first carrier surfaces () accommodating the first resonator mirrors (A,B) and second carrier surfaces () accommodating the second resonator mirrors (A,B), wherein the first resonator light path () extends through a first spacer body bore () in the spacer body () between the first carrier surfaces (), and the second resonator light path () extends through a second spacer body bore () in the spacer body () between the second carrier surfaces (). Furthermore, an atom trapping method for creating a two-dimensional arrangement of atoms and an atom trap apparatus, like an optical atomic clock, a quantum simulation and/or a quantum computing device are described.

A device for generating and manpulating coherent matter waves contains a magnetic trap being adapted to form a magnetic trapping potential for gas atoms, said magnetic trap comprising a plurality of trap coils being connected with a current supply device and including two quadrupole coils and one Ioffe coil, wherein the trap coils are arranged in such a relative position that a common trap is formed, said common trap having a quadrupole trap shape with one trap minimum if the quadrupole coils are in an operation condition and the Ioffe coil is in a currentless condition or two trap minima or a Ioffe trap shape if all the quadrupole and Ioffe coils are in an operation condition and a shielding device protecting the magnetic trap against external magnetic fields. A method of continuous extracting matter waves from the trap is described.
