A method for processing a flowback composition stream from a well head includes controlling a first flow rate of the flow back composition stream to a second flow rate by regulating the flowback composition stream from a first pressure to a second pressure. The method also includes separating the flowback composition stream into a first gas stream and a condensed stream. The method includes discharging the condensed stream to a degasser and degassing a carbon dioxide rich gas from the condensed stream. The method also includes mixing the carbon dioxide rich gas stream with the first gas stream to produce a second gas stream. The method includes controlling a third flow rate of the second gas stream by regulating a third pressure of the second gas stream to a fourth pressure that is different than the third pressure.

Modular assembly for processing a flowback composition stream and methods of processing the same

Disclosed is an actuator that includes a cylinder having an input port, a piston disposed at least partially inside of the cylinder, and one or more piston rings disposed in a circumferential piston ring groove or grooves. The actuator also includes at least one spring, inserted into the circumferential piston ring groove adjacent to the one or more piston rings and a high pressure side of said piston ring. The spring preloads the one or more piston rings to seal between a low pressure face of the one or more piston rings and a low pressure face of the circumferential piston ring groove. The invention also includes a method for moving an adjustable seal in a radial direction using the piston-ring sealed actuator. The method includes moving the adjustable seal in an axial direction, breaking a primary axial contact between the adjustable seal and a primary sealing face.

Fluidic actuator for application inside turbomachinery

A method and seal assembly for a rotary machine including a rotary component and a stationary component is provided. The method includes providing a seal housing including a front plate and a back plate that is spaced from the front plate such that a cavity is defined between the front plate and the back plate. The method also includes coupling a plurality of flexible compliant plates to at least one of the seal housing and the stationary component such that the compliant plates are spaced from the front plate and the back plate within the cavity, and coupling at least one projection to at least one of the seal housing and the compliant plates such that the at least one projection facilitates reducing flow through at least one of a first axial gap and a second axial gap that are defined between the seal housing and the compliant plates.

Methods and apparatus to facilitate sealing in rotary machines

A vibration control system for a rotary machine having a rotor, includes a sensor disposed within the rotary machine for sensing vibration of the rotor, a vibration damping device disposed within the rotary machine for imparting a reaction force to the rotor, and a controller arranged in operable communication with the sensor and the vibration damping device. The controller is adapted to receive a sensor signal from the sensor and to send a control signal to the vibration damping device for damping the vibration of the rotor.

Method and apparatus for rotary machine vibration control

An actuated seal assembly for controlling flow in a fluid path in turbomachinery comprising a seal and a seal carrier coupled to the seal is provided. A displacement apparatus is coupled to the seal carrier for positioning the seal so as to control the flow in the fluid path. In addition, a drive system is provided for powering the displacement apparatus.

An electrical transformer includes a tank containing transformer fluid and a transformer core and winding subassembly located in the transformer fluid within the tank. The electrical transformer also includes a mechanism for varying the dynamic pressure of the transformer fluid within the tank during electromagnetic operation of the transformer core and winding subassembly to cancel out (or reduce) noise-causing vibrations in the transformer fluid which come from the operating transformer core and winding subassembly. Preferably, the electrical transformer further includes an active mount subassembly.

An electrical transformer includes a housing, a transformer core and winding subassembly located within the housing, and an active mount subassembly having an active mount and a controller. The active mount has a first end attached to the housing and a second end attached to the transformer core and winding subassembly. The controller has an output port connected to the active mount. The active mount cancels out (or reduces) noise-causing vibrations which come from the transformer core and winding subassembly during transformer operation.

An electrical transformer includes a housing, a transformer core and winding subassembly located in the housing, and a cooling fan subassembly. The cooling fan subassembly includes a variable speed fan located outside the housing, a temperature sensor located near the housing, and a controller having an output port connected to the variable speed fan and an input port connected to the temperature sensor. The controller reduces the fan speed (and hence the fan noise) when a lower fan speed can maintain the desired temperature as sensed by the temperature sensor. Preferably, the electrical transformer further includes an active mount subassembly and/or (when the housing includes a tank containing transformer fluid) a mechanism for varying the dynamic pressure of such transformer fluid.

A diagnostic system and method for rotating machinery having mechanical problems combine AI-based interpretive reasoning with rotordynamic-based modeling and numerical optimization. A vibration response in the machinery to be diagnosed is first measured by machine sensors, and this measured response is used in a rule-based expert system to determine a probable cause of the machinery's mechanical problem. An appropriate finite element analytical model of the machinery is generated based on the probable cause. An optimizer computes the predicted response from the analytical model and compares it with the measured response. The model is automatically refined, guided by the expert system and numerical optimization, to match the predicted response with the measured response. The modifications to the model necessary to duplicate the measured response of the defective machinery are then indicative of the defects.

Integrated model-based reasoning/expert system diagnosis for rotating

An active noise and vibration control system which minimizes noise output by creating a secondary, cancelling noise and/or vibration field using vibrational inputs. The system includes one or more piezoceramic actuators mounted to the inner surface of a magnetic resonance imaging device. The actuators can be either mounted directly to the device or to one or more noise cancelling members which are resiliently mounted to the device. Transducers are also provided for sensing the noise or vibrations generated by the device and producing an error signal corresponding to the level of noise or vibrations sensed. A controller sends a control signal to the actuators in response to the error signal, thereby causing the actuators to vibrate and generate a noise or vibration field which minimizes the total noise emanating from the device. Alternatively, the system can use noise and vibration feedback simultaneously.

Active control of noise and vibrations in magnetic resonance imaging

Micromachining methods for fabricating micromechanical structures which include plunger elements free to reciprocate within cavities are fabricated using processing steps in common with those employed in high density interconnect (HDI) technology for multi-chip module packaging. A polymer, such as a polyimide, is utilized as a micromachinable material. In one embodiment, cavities are formed in the polymer material by laser ablation, employing a sacrificial layer as a mask. Electroplated copper may be employed as a sacrificial release layer. One particular structure is a micromechanical electric switch including an array of individual switch contacts actuatable in common.

Micromachining methods for making micromechanical moving structures

A circuit interruption device having a plurality of micromechanical switches mounted on a substrate in a parallel-series array. The array includes a plurality of line branches connected in parallel in a circuit line. Each of the line branches has at least two of the switches serially connected therein. The micromechanical switches each has a pair of contacts formed on the substrate, a bridging contact movably formed on the substrate, and an actuator for causing the bridging contact to move in and out of contact with the contacts. The bridging contact can be either a member slidably disposed in a channel formed on the substrate or member attached to an end of a cantilever having its other end attached to the substrate. The actuator is controlled by a trip device which is also mounted on the substrate. The trip device senses the current in the circuit line and causes the switches to open when a predetermined level of current in the line is exceeded.

The gas turbine includes a combustor 10 having a transition piece 18 with its exit end spaced from a first-stage nozzle 22. A brush seal 26 seals about the space between the transition piece and first-stage nozzle. The brush seal includes a sealing cap 28 supported by one of the transition piece and the first-stage nozzle and having a portion 38 overlying the other of the transition piece and first-stage nozzle. A seal ring 30 is secured to the other of the transition piece and the first-stage nozzle and carries bristles 32 projecting therefrom for engagement with the overlying portion 38 of the sealing cap 28 to seal the gap between the transition piece and the first-stage nozzle. In one form, the side face portions of the bristles of the bristle pack form the seal by engaging against a planar sealing surface.

Micromechanical moving structures including multiple contact switching

X-ray tube noise is reduced by coupling the stator mass to the neck section of the glass vacuum tube so that vibrations are dissipated by the stator and not transmitted to the bulk of the vacuum tube. The coupling is accomplished with a non-magnetic sealing material such as an epoxy sealant. The sealant will generally fill the gap between the stator and the neck section of the vacuum tube. Alternatively, the coupling can be done with a mechanical clamping device.
