A station-to-station communication system with a built-in testing arrangement in at least one of the stations. The testing arrangement includes a transmitter/receiver pair with associated light/electricity and electricity/light transducers connectable at will by controlled switching means. When the transmitter/receiver pair is connected to each other, electro-optical light signals emitted by the transmitter are returned to the receiver and produce perceptible signals.

Electro-optical communication station with built-in test means

A method for measuring attenuation of light signals passing through an opal fiber and means for effecting such measurements. The attenuation can be measured over varying angles of bend and with light of different wave lengths. The determinations made are of value in the evaluation of effects of bending optical fibers used in telecommunications, with certain sensors and the like.

Method and device for measuring light signal attenuation

A coupling between optical fibers, one of which rotates respective a light ensor coupled to another such fiber. The light emanating from the end of the fiber facing the sensor reaches such sensor directly or it is focused onto it by a lens. The area of the sensor is larger than the fiber diameter, which is axially mounted in the rotating body, so as to cancel out misalignments resulting from high speed rotations of the fiber respective the sensor.

Optical fiber coupling

A pressure actuated sensor device (20) has an upper plate (21) functionally cooperating with an optical fiber (26) so that when pressure is applied onto the upper plate (21) light transmitted through the optical fiber is attenuated. The optical fiber (26) in the device (20) is sandwiched between one layer (24) made of a flexible material and a second layer (25) of rigid wires.
