There is a method for forming a semiconductor nanostructure on a substrate. The method includes placing a substrate and a semiconductor material in a pulsed laser deposition chamber; selecting parameters including a fluence of a laser beam, a pressure P inside the chamber, a temperature T of the substrate, a distance d between the semiconductor material and the substrate, and a gas molecule diameter aof a gas to be placed inside the chamber so that conditions for a Stranski-Krastanov nucleation are created; and applying the laser beam with the selected fluence to the semiconductor material to form a plume of the semiconductor material. The selected parameters determine the formation, from the plume, of (1) a nanolayer that covers the substrate, (2) a polycrystalline wetting layer over the nanolayer, and (3) a single-crystal nanofeature over the polycrystalline wetting layer, and the single-crystal nanofeature is grown free of any catalyst or seeding layer.

A method for forming CsPbBrperovskite nanocrystals into a two-dimensional (2D) nanosheet includes providing CsPbBrperovskite nanocrystals; mixing the CsPbBrperovskite nanocrystals into a mixture of a first solvent and a second solvent, to form a solution of the CsPbBrperovskite nanocrystals, the first solvent, and the second solvent; and forming an optoelectronic device by patterning the CsPbBrperovskite nanocrystals into a nanosheet, between first and second electrodes. The first solvent is selected to evaporate before the second solvent.

Method for making inorganic perovskite nanocrystals film and applications

A method for making ion-crystal semiconductor material based micro- and/or nanowires, MNWs, embedded into a semiconductor substrate, includes forming a structure into the semiconductor substrate, wherein the structure has each of a width and a depth less than 10 μm; pumping an ion-crystal semiconductor material as an ion solution into the structure, wherein the pumping is achieved exclusively due to capillary forces; flowing the ion solution through the structure to fill the structure; crystallizing the ion-crystal semiconductor material inside the structure to form the MNWs; and adding electrodes to ends of the MNWs.

Micro-pump fluidic strategy for fabricating perovskite microwire array-based devices on semiconductor platforms and method

A photodetector for detecting deep ultra-violet light includes a substrate; first and second electrodes separated by a channel; and colloidal MnO based quantum dots formed in the channel. The colloidal MnO based quantum dots are sensitive to ultra-violet light having a wavelength lower than 300 nm.

Deep ultra-violet devices using ultra-violet nanoparticles with p-type conductivity

Provided are methods, systems, and apparatuses providing flexible conductive substrates for nanomaterial/perovskite-based optoelectronic devices. One such apparatus may include a flexible conductive substrate, a nanomaterial layer disposed on the flexible conductive substrate, and a perovskite layer disposed on the nanomaterial layer. The flexible conductive substrate may be a cost-effective metal sheet such as a stainless steel sheet or an aluminum sheet. The nanomaterial layer may comprise semiconductor or oxide nanorods, nanowires, nanotubes, or nanoparticles, such as gadolinium-doped zinc oxide nanorods. The perovskite layer may comprise inorganic or organic perovskite. The apparatus may further include an optically transparent conductive layer disposed on the perovskite layer. Optionally, the apparatus may include an electrical contact disposed on a portion of the optically transparent conductive layer.

Methods and apparatuses for fabricating perovskite-based devices on cost-effective flexible conductive substrates

Methods, apparatuses, and systems are provided for using laser ablation to manufacture nanoparticles. An example method includes steps of generating, by a laser beam generator, a laser beam, splitting, by a set of beam splitters, the laser beam into a plurality of derivative laser beams, and directing each derivative laser beam towards a plurality of targets. In this example method, the plurality of targets are submerged in corresponding synthesis solvents within corresponding synthesis chambers. Moreover, interaction of each derivative laser beam with its corresponding target releases nanoparticles into the corresponding synthesis solvent to create a nanoparticle solution including both the corresponding synthesis solvent and the released nanoparticles.

Method and apparatus for fabricating high performance optoelectronic devices

A spin-sensitive ultraviolet light-based device includes a p-type GaN layer; an n-type Gd doped ZnO nanostructure grown on the GaN layer; a first electrode formed on the GaN layer; and a second electrode formed on the Gd doped ZnO nanostructure. Electrons supplied through the first and second electrodes are spin-polarized by the Gd doped ZnO nanostructure. Polarized ultraviolet light emitted or received by the Gd doped ZnO nanostructure is correlated with the spin-polarized electrons.

Spin-sensitive ultraviolet light-based device and method

The invention generally relates to methods of analyzing crude oil. In certain embodiments, methods of the invention involve obtaining a crude oil sample, and subjecting the crude oil sample to mass spectrometry analysis. In certain embodiments, the method is performed without any sample pre-purification steps.

Methods of analyzing crude oil

Metal oxide nanostructure and methods of making metal oxide nanostructures are provided. The metal oxide nanostructures can be 1-dimensional nanostructures such as nanowires, nanofibers, or nanotubes. The metal oxide nanostructures can be doped or un-doped metal oxides. The metal oxide nanostructures can be deposited onto a variety of substrates. The deposition can be performed without high pressures and without the need for seed catalysts on the substrate. The deposition can be performed by laser ablation of a target including a metal oxide and, optionally, a dopant. In some embodiments zinc oxide nanostructures are deposited onto a substrate by pulsed laser deposition of a zinc oxide target using an excimer laser emitting UV radiation. The zinc oxide nanostructure can be doped with a rare earth metal such as gadolinium. The metal oxide nanostructures can be used in many devices including light-emitting diodes and solar cells.
