An aircraft pairing system and method are provided to arrange for scheduling flights of two or more aircraft. The system and method allow to identify pairs of aircraft flights, wherein the aircraft can be brought together into a formation with a follower aircraft flying in the wake upwash of a leader aircraft to generate fuel savings. The system and method utilize historical flight data to generate a list of possible flight pairings and anticipated fuel savings, and live data to update the possible flight pairings and anticipated fuel savings. A display of the possible flight pairings and anticipated fuel savings is provided on a user interface. The user may accept flight pairings and extract data to modify flight plans.

Aircraft pairing tool for formation flight

A process for pairing two aircraft together to save fuel. After evaluating whether two aircraft may possibly be paired together in a formation for fuel savings, the process determines new flight plans for both aircraft, allowing the second aircraft to save fuel by flying behind the first aircraft so that the second aircraft utilizes the energy of the wake vortices generated by the first aircraft. Based on the new flight plan, the process determines if there is a net trip fuel savings for the pair.

A method and system for estimating an angular deviation from a reference guidance axis, a position and a velocity of an aircraft. The system includes an offset collection module for collecting an offset measured by a measurement module, a position vector collection module for collecting a position vector measured by a position vector measurement module, a velocity vector collection module, a module for estimating the angular deviation of a reference guidance axis with respect to the approach axis towards the runway, for estimating the position of the aircraft with respect to the runway and for estimating the velocity of the aircraft with respect to the runway.
