A device that can be used to store blood product and/or cellular culture that may or may not be under pressure. The device includes a chamber that can be hermetically sealed and a flexible secondary bag which can be placed in the chamber. The chamber is designed to receive at least one secondary bag that contains a conventional storage bag containing blood product and/or cellular culture. The storage conditions are created in the chamber and may or may not include 1) creating a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, 2) creating a refrigerated temperature, and/or 3) providing agitation to the secondary bag. The secondary bag is filled with a gas system that is used to facilitate in the storage of the blood product and/or cellular culture. The secondary bag can be made of a material and/or include a coating or film that is impermeable to the gas system and to the gas inside the chamber. The higher-than-atmospheric pressure inside the chamber can be created by pumping an inexpensive gas, for example, air, into the chamber. The gas used to pressurize the chamber can be different from the gas system in the secondary bag.

Device for preserving blood products and cellular cultures in a gas medium under pressure

A method for platelet preservation comprising placing a composition comprising platelets in a gas mixture comprising xenon and oxygen under pressure of about 0-10 Bars at a first temperature of about 18&#xb0; C.-37&#xb0; C. for a first period of time, and then subsequently cooling the composition to a second temperature of about 0,1&#xb0; C.-6&#xb0; C., and holding the composition under the pressure and in the second temperature for a second period of time.

Method for living tissue preservation

A system, method, and device for preserving blood and its components is described. The system and method generally include a device having a body defining a chamber, the chamber being configured to receive at least one bag containing blood or its components, the at least one bag being permeable to gas, for example, xenon. A cover is hermetically sealable to the body. An inlet is in fluid communication with the chamber. A pressure indicator is configured to indicate pressure in the chamber, the pressure indicator including a conduit containing a liquid. A portion of the conduit is transparent such that the liquid is visible. A source of pressurized gas, such as xenon, is provided to provide the pressurized gas to the chamber.

System, method, and device for preserving blood or its components in gas medium under pressure

A method for preserving erythrocytes comprising the steps of obtaining an erythrocyte concentrate; subjecting the erythrocyte concentrate to a gas system that includes 65% to 100% by volume and optionally one or more ballast gases from 0% to 35% by volume; and, maintaining the erythrocyte concentrate that has been subjected to the gas system at a temperature that is above the freezing point of the erythrocyte concentrate and up to a temperature of about 30&#xb0; C.

Erythrocyte preservation method

Provided is a method for reducing apoptosis in nucleated cells. The method entails holding nucleated cells in a container and adding a gas containing xenon to the container so that the pressure inside the container reaches between 0.5 to 4.0 Atm above ambient pressure; holding the container at between 0.5 to 4.0 Atm above ambient pressure for a period of time during which the temperature in the container is between 22&#xb0; C. and 37&#xb0; C.; lowering the temperature in the container to between 0.1&#xb0; C. and 10&#xb0; C. while maintaining the pressure of 0.5 to 4.0 Atm above ambient pressure and holding the container for a period of time; and reducing the pressure in the container to ambient pressure and increasing the temperature to 22&#xb0; C.-37&#xb0; C. By performing these steps, the cells undergo less apoptosis than a reference.

Method for preserving cells and cell cultures

A method includes at least partially saturating platelet concentrate xenon, and storing the platelet concentrate at less than 15 C in a generally horizontal position. Platelet concentrate preservation method

An improved method for storing platelets and compositions that contain stored platelets for use in transfusions. The method entails obtaining a platelet concentrate from blood obtained from an individual and holding the platelet concentrate at refrigerated temperatures under an atmosphere having a pressure of from 3.5 to 5 bars comprising more than 65% xenon and for at least one week. Also provided is a refrigerated composition that contains a platelet concentrate, wherein the platelet concentrate contains xenon, and wherein the platelet concentrate has been isolated from an individual for at least seven days.

Storage of platelets under pressure with xenon containing atmosphere

An enhancement water system to produce a serving of enhanced filtered water is described. The present system describes a faucet mount water enhancement system that includes a housing with an inlet and an outlet, a source of water at the inlet, and a filter component within the housing. Source water is converted into treated water as it flows through the filter component under the influence of pressure. The housing further includes an outlet for outflow of treated water. A first enhancement module is disposed outside the housing adjacent the outlet and the first enhancement module is effective to dispense a desired amount of a first enhancement for use in combining with treated water dispensed from the outlet.

Control scheme for enhanced filtered water systems

An enhancement control system that can be used as part of an enhanced water system to produce enhanced filtered water is described. The enhancement control system includes at least one enhancement delivery element that can dispense an enhancement(s) into filtered water in response to an enhancement delivery instruction(s). The control system can also include a monitor element that can gather data from outside the enhanced water system, such as user health information or environmental information, and provide the data to the enhanced water system. In some embodiments, a control logic element can be used to coordinate and control operation of the elements of the enhanced water system.

Method of preserving a platelet concentrate under elevated xenon concentration and pressure with refrigeration

A large scale processing method for separating banana pulp from its peel is shown. In this method bananas are separated into two parts (generally in a transverse direction), each part having a tip end and a cut end. A compression force is applied to those banana parts such that the force increases from the tip end to the cut end. A device which implements that process, comprising a cutting device, a means for feeding bananas into the cutting device, and two processing conveyor devices (to apply the compression force to the banana parts), is also shown.

A device which separates banana pulp from its peel, suitable for large-scale processing, is disclosed. The device consists of upper and lower conveyor belts, a roller installed above the upper belt, and a pressure generating element (e.g., a roller or a plate) installed below the lower belt. The belts are installed so as to converge in the direction of their movement. The axes of the roller(s) is oriented between the longitudinal direction of the lower belt and its transverse direction.
