In order to facilitate group communication using characteristics of a prearranged group but not involving all members of the pre-arranged group, a parameter indicating that the group communication is not intended to all members of the pre-arranged group is added by an inviting group member sending a request to a group server, and the group server, in response to the parameter, is configured to not to invite all members to the group communication.

Group communication

Function mode routing

The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling a processing load in a packet data network, wherein a load control information is set in a predetermined field of a message. The load control information is then checked on the routing path of the message and a processing resource of the packet data network is selected in response to the result of checking step. Thereby, load balancing information can be provided at the network to thereby provide an efficient balancing and load sharing function without heavy string comparisons and data base queries.

Message-based conveyance of load control information

The invention relates to a communication system and method wherein a user equipment contains, or is provided with, a list of items of service-related information. The list of service-related information represents a list of service provider names, services and/or service types or the like. When intending to establish or modify a session or connection or use a service, the user equipment selects, in one of the embodiments, an item from the list and performs a DNS query to resolve the name of the selected item to an IP address which then is used for set-up. The list may be provided by an DHCP server or in a PDP context message. The list may comprise one or more service provider default names, in particular for visited and home networks.

Communication system and method for establishing a connection to a serving network element

The invention relates to a service provisioning method in a communication system. In the method information regarding a communication control entity capable of servicing a user of the communication system is received at a first entity associated with the communication system from a storage entity. Based on said information, an originating request is then signalled from the first entity to the communication control entity.

Service provisioning in a communication system

This invention relates to a method of routing for a message via an IMS system is disclosed. A message is received at an ICSCF. Address information is obtained for one of an application server, server or gateway for which said message is intended. The message is sent to said application server, server or gateway in accordance with said address information.

Routing messages

A method and apparatus for registering a user as a subscriber in a communication network. The method includes transmitting a registration message which defines an identity of the user to the communication network. The method also includes providing in the registration message a header field for defining at least one other identity of the user as a subscriber. The method also includes performing a one-by-one registration based on an identity information stored at a terminal device, whereby the identity information defines at least one other identity of the user as a subscriber. Thus, the user or subscriber can register some or all of his public identities at once with one registration procedure, allowing the user to utilize his identities by grouping public identities under user profiles or under private identities, while preventing unwanted calls.

Method and apparatus for registration of a user as a subscriber in a communication network

A service control element stores a user filter criterion. When it receives a session request identifying the user, it checks whether the session request matches the user filter criterion, and outputs the session request to a defined service platform when the session request matches the user filter criterion. The element is arranged to retrieve, before forwarding the request to the service platform, a capability information element that indicates the dynamic capability of a user to utilize the service provided by the service platform. If the information element indicates that the user is not capable to utilize the service provided by the service platform, the session is terminated. Incoming messages can be appropriately managed already in the network element responsible for service control, and thus additional load and unnecessary charging considerations can be avoided.

A method for transferring information in a communication system whereby one or more subscriber units may communicate, the system comprising a network having a connection controller, one or more subscriber information stores and at least one application provider, the method comprising registering a subscriber unit with the network, including transmitting from the subscriber information store associated with that subscriber unit to the connection controller information indicative of the access of that subscriber unit to application services: and in order to enable access to services of the application provider, transmitting from the connection controller to the application provider at least one of: a. an indication of the address of at least one unit from which the application provider may retrieve subscriber specific information related to the services of the application provider; and b. subscriber specific information related to the services of the application provider.

Passing information to and from an application server in a communication system

A solution for establishing a session of a real-time media communication service in a communication system comprising at least two separately administered subsystems. The session establishment comprises receiving a request for session initiation, querying subscriber information related to the requested session, and initiating the session according to the queried subscriber information. The invented method comprises detecting that the terminating subscriber does not belong to the same subsystem as the originating subscriber, determining a defined transit server associated with the terminating subscriber, said transit server having access to a subscriber database of the subsystem of the terminating subscriber, and querying subscriber information related to the requested session with a first control message comprising parameters of the requested session to the transit server. The solution allows a connection to be established between users of a real-time media communication service for subscribers of separate administrative subsystems so that operators of each subsystem may possess full control of their own network elements, and the internal connection establishment procedures need minimal alterations for the functionality.

A technique for hiding network element names and addresses in communications between first and second networks includes providing a message generated by a network entity in the first network to be delivered to a target network entity in the second network, the messaging including first and second parts. The message generated by the network entity in the first network is routed to a contact point disposed between the first and second networks in accordance with the first part of the message and the message generated by the network entity in the first network is routed from the contact point to the target network entity in the second network in accordance with the second part of the message.
