Cup lid

A two-level tamper-evident system for molded plastic container closure combinations. The closure is of the type which has an inexpandable peripheral skirt which snaps over and locks onto the container lip and which must be broken at several fracture points before it can be removed. In addition a tear strip acts as a removable barrier to the fracture points. As such, it must be received before the closure can be removed.

Tamper-evident container and closure

A bucket-shaped container having a rim opening smaller than the diameter of the side wall thereof is injected molded from thermoplastic material using a die set including a molding core which collapses to allow axial removal of the molded container from the mold. The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge-shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slideably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core section relative to the inner core. The sliding movement of the outer core sections on the inner core is provided by a plurality of keylocks which are fixedly secured in corresponding axial keyways in the inner core and which slideably engage corresponding axial keyways in the outer core sections. Coacting cam faces on the keylock and on the keyway of the outer core sections ensure that the outer core sections move firmly and positively into engagement with the inner core as the outer core sections arrive at their expanded molding positions. Means are also disclosed to ensure that the keylock is firmly and positively seated in the keyway in the inner core and further camming means are disclosed to ensure that the lower ends of the outer core sections are held firmly against the inner core during the molding operation.

Molding apparatus

Apparatus for maintaining a diametric uniformity of wall thickness in a hollow molded plastic article by maintaining axial mold alignment over the period of use thereof. Guide blocks are mounted in circumferentially spaced relationship on one of the telescopic mold elements and pockets are provided with wear plates in the opposite element to receive the guide blocks axially therein and to provide a centering maintenance function which overrides the alignment function of other portions of the mold; e.g., tapered telescopic striking surfaces which are internal of the guide and wear block arrangements.

Apparatus for maintaining uniform wall thickness in hollow molded

A straight sided injection molded plastic container and lid combination wherein the cylindrical sidewall of the container exhibits a neck section of reduced interior diameter and structure in said neck section for reinforcement thereof in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the container.

Container construction

A bucket shaped container having a rim opening smaller than the diameter of the sidewall thereof is injection molded from thermoplastic material using a die set including a molding core which collapses to allow axial removal of the molded container from the mold. The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slidably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core sections relative to the inner core. Each of the outer core sections is also mounted for radial sliding movement on a mounting plate which circumscribes the molding core and is mounted for reciprocating axial movement relative to the inner core. Reciprocation of the mounting plate produces simultaneous axial and radial movement of the outer core sections throughout their entire lengths between an expanded molding position and a collapsed container releasing position. A plurality of rim molding segments mounted for radial sliding movement on the mounting plate automatically shift between molding and release positions in synchronism with the axial travel of the outer core sections.

Apparatus for forming a container

A resealable, cylindrical plastic container assembly formed from high density thermoplastic includes a rim and lid interlock construction which provides an improved rim-to-lid seal. The container includes a plurality of circumferential and longitudinal reinforcement ribs adjacent the rim which are inset into the container sidewalls so as to avoid protuberances therefrom. A connecting flange above the reinforcement ribs supports the rim and provides a firm surface for supporting a pry tool used to remove the lid from the container. The rim comprises an exterior sealing bead and an interior locking lip connected by a substantially flat, inclined sealing surface. The lid is provided with interior and exterior locking portions defining a channel which grips and conformingly engages the rim to provide a fluid tight seal between the bead and locking lip of the container. Circumferentially spaced notches in the connecting flange provide access to a pry opening between the flange and the lid to facilitate removal of the lid.
