A field-replaceable unit is reversibly secured in place using two captive fasteners. Each fastener includes a telescoping knob that rotates 180 degrees in a first direction to engage a latch mechanism and rotates 180 degrees in the opposite direction to disengage the latch mechanism. The knob automatically extends when the latch mechanism is disengaged. The knob alternately extends and retracts in response to being successively pressed when the latch mechanism is engaged. The knob has two cutaways formed along outside edges to facilitate a two-finger grip for knob rotation and pulling the unit out of another module. A circular groove centered on an axis of rotation of the knob has a contrasting coloration and provides a visual and tactile indication of know location. A nub indicates rotational position of the knob.

Example high-density cable management bars are provided. In an example, a cable management bar comprises a cable channel configured to fit one or more cables and comprising a first end and a second end. The cable management bar can also comprise a first attachment point extending perpendicular from the first end. The cable management bar can also comprise a second attachment point extending perpendicular from the second end, the first attachment point and the second attachment point configured to attach to a rackmount computer, the cable management system configured to extend away from a rack in which the rackmount computer is located when attached to the rackmount computer via the first attachment point and the second attachment point, and when the rackmount computer is mounted in a rack.

A data storage drive carrier configured for insertion into 2U or 3U slots not an electrocal chassis. The carrier has opposing side members and front and back members. A first side member is fixedly attached to the front member to form a rigid L-shaped portion of the carrier; and a second side member and the back member are pivotally attached to the L-shaped portion. The second one of side members and the back member are pivotally attached to the L-shaped portion at first ends and second ends thereof are attached to together to form a closed frame after receiving therein the drive. A light pipe is disposed within a groove formed in one of the side members, one end of the pipe being disposed adjacent to a light source of a rearward interposer to receive optical signal emitted by the source and an opposite end disposed adjacent a front end of the carrier.

A gangable conduit management device includes a body for housing a conduit, the body having an interior portion for receiving the conduit, an exterior portion having a first connection device on a first side thereof and a second connection device on a second side thereof and retention means for retaining the conduit within the body. The first connection device includes a male connector portion and the second connection device includes a female connector portion.

A modular patch panel for interconnecting a data storage system controller to data storage enclosures is provided. The modular patch panel includes a chassis and modular interface circuitry. The chassis has a front end and a back end, the front end and the back end being horizontally opposed, the back end attaching to a panel portion of a rack system, the panel portion electrically connecting to the data storage enclosures over a set of point-to-point connections. The modular interface circuitry has (a) a data storage interface portion electrically connected to the set of point-to-point connections through the panel and (b) a controller interface portion electrically connecting to the data storage system controller through the front end. The modular interface circuitry is interchangeable through an opening in the front end. It is also constructed and arranged to manage digital communications between the data storage system controller and the data storage enclosures according to a data storage system protocol used by the data storage system controller.

Modular patch panel with pluggable personalities

A cable assembly has an electronic cable (e.g., a data communications cable, a power cable, a fiber optic cable, a cable concurrently providing both data and power, etc.), a label to provide identification to the electronic cable, and a label supporter. The label supporter includes a cable section arranged to attach to the electronic cable, and a label section coupled to the cable section. The label section defines a rigid label surface which concurrently (i) overlays a portion of an outer surface of the electronic cable at a predefined distance from the outer surface of the electronic cable and (ii) supports the label at the predefined distance from the outer surface of the electronic cable when the cable section attaches to the electronic cable.

Techniques for attaching a label to an electronic cable

A printed circuit board module for a rack mounted chassis. The module includes a latching assembly having: a handle and a catch. When the module is inserted a predetermined distance into a chassis, the catch becomes inserted into an aperture formed on the chassis and when, at such predetermined distance, the handle is slid inwardly into the chassis, the catch engages the handle to retain the handle within the module. On the other hand if, when the module is inserted into the chassis at a distance less than the predetermined distance, the catch is unable to be inserted into an aperture and when the handle is slid inwardly from the chassis, the catch prevents the handle from being retained and such handle, when released, is urged outwardly of the module thereby indicating that the module is improperly inserted within the chassis.

Latch assembly

A power cord retainer for retaining a plug portion of an electrical cord in an electrical socket mounted to a chassis. The retainer includes a pair of resilient, self supporting posts, each one having a distal end configured for affixation to positions of the chassis on opposing sides of the socket and a pair of shoulders, each one affixed to a proximal end of a corresponding one of the pair of posts. The pair of shoulders are configured to form a grove along adjacent inner sides thereof. The groove is axially aligned with the socket. The groove is configured to receive the power cord when the posts are in a stretched position. The shoulders are configured to engage a rear portion of the plug portion and, together with the forces provided by the pair of posts when such posts are enabled to return to an un-stretched position, retain such plug in the socket.

A technique for fastening a panel to an electronic cabinet frame involves inserting portions of rigid support members (e.g., rails) of the electronic cabinet frame into grooves defined by fasteners to attach the fasteners to the portions of the rigid support members of the electronic cabinet frame. The technique further involves positioning catches (e.g., latching members) of the panel adjacent catch members of the fasteners, and moving the panel toward the fasteners such that the catches of the panel engage with the catch members of the fasteners to fasten the panel to the electronic cabinet frame. Accordingly, no screws or other hardware is required to mount either the fasteners or the panel.

Techniques for fastening a panel to an electronic cabinet frame

A disk drive module is adapted to be slidably disposed within the chassis of a data storage system. The disk drive module includes a fiber channel disk drive for storing data, an upper carrier sled mounted onto the disk drive and a lower carrier sled mounted onto the disk drive. A bezel assembly is snap mounted onto the upper and lower carrier sleds. The bezel assembly includes a bezel which is capable of lateral displacement relative to the upper carrier sled, an ejector pivotally mounted onto the bezel for releasably locking the disk drive module within the chassis, and a latch for releasably locking the position of the ejector. An adaptive spring includes a first end which is mounted onto the upper carrier sled and a second end which abuts against the bezel, the adaptive spring resiliently urging the bezel away from the upper carrier sled.
