An apparatus and method for compensating the effect of a contact by a hand or other body part of a user with a touch screen of a host device while holding an input device on the strength of a capacitively coupled uplink signal provided to the input device (e.g. stylus) by the host device. The compensation is achieved by applying an antiphase signal on a selective contact area (e.g. under a palm area), to increase an overall induced signal collected by the input device from digitizer-to-pen and palm-to-pen paths.

Stylus uplink enhancement for touchscreen devices

A method includes detecting presence of a handheld device in proximity of a touch enabled device and negotiating communication capabilities between the handheld device and a digitizer system of the touch enabled device. At least one of the handheld device and the digitizer system is configured to match a defined communication capability of the other of the at least one of the handheld device and digitizer system. Input from the handheld device is tracked via an electrostatic communication channel between the handheld device and the digitizer system based on the defined communication configuration.

Active stylus communication with a digitizer

The disclosure herein describes changing a mode of operation of a computing device using signals from a pen device. The pen device obtains gesture input data from at least one sensor of the pen device and the obtained gesture input data is compared to at least one gesture pattern. Based on the gesture input data matching the at least one gesture pattern, the pen device transitions to an active state. The pen device detects, via an electrostatic communication channel, an uplink signal from the computing device and sends a signal to change a mode of operation of the computing device by at least one of a network interface or a communication channel, other than the electrostatic communication channel. Changing modes of operation of a computing device provides a flexible, stream-lined way to enhance the user experience of using a computing device with a pen device (e.g., performing an initial pairing process).

A mechanical keyboard for use on a touch screen comprises an individually and resiliently depressible key and a network of electrical conductors. They key includes a user-facing outer portion and a screen-facing, electrically conductive inner portion, the inner portion being configured to approach the touch screen during depression of the key. The network of electrical conductors is configured to conduct a drive signal to the inner portion of the key, the drive signal being received, during the depression of the key, at a locus of touch screen directly beneath the key.

A circuit, includes a first node, a positive voltage generator electrically connected to the first node, a negative voltage generator electrically connected to the first node in parallel with the positive voltage generator, a second node, an electrical connector electrically connecting the first node to the second node, a first light emitting diode (LED) electrically intermediate the second node and ground, and a second LED electrically intermediate the second node and ground in parallel with the first LED. The first LED is configured to activate based on the negative voltage generator supplying a negative voltage to the second node via the first node. The second LED is configured to activate based on the positive voltage generator supplying a positive voltage to the second node via the first node.

A system includes a display integrated with a digitizer sensor, a handheld device configured to transmit a signal to the digitizer sensor based on a defined protocol, a power supply and a controller. The controller is configured to sample output from the digitizer sensor, detect parameters characterizing noise from at least one of the display and the power supply, characterize a noise environment on the digitizer sensor based on the parameters detected and provide instructions to alter a transmission protocol of the handheld device based on the noise environment.

Stylus with a dynamic transmission protocol

The presently disclosed technology uses predefined handwriting characteristics to create and/or refine a stylus position interpolation function over time to provide more accurate and adaptive renderings of the user's handwriting on a touch screen. As the presently disclosed technology is performed on a specific device and uses data collected from one or more specific users, it adapts the stylus position interpolation function for any device-specific or user-specific variations. Further, as the stylus position interpolation function adapts iteratively over time, it may not converge and continues to adapt as the device ages, the user's habits change, or identify of the user changes, and environmental conditions of the device change.

A digitizer system includes a stylus comprising a plurality of transmitters for transmitting signals, wherein each of the plurality of transmitters are distanced from one another by a defined distance, a digitizer sensor operable for sensing signals transmitted by the plurality of transmitters, and circuitry associated with the digitizer sensor for tracking a projected location on the digitizer sensor of each of the plurality of transmitters based on the signals sensed, and for tracking a geometric relationship between the projected locations.

A method includes generating a first signal type and a second signal type in a handheld device and transmitting both the first signal type and the second signal type in a transmission cycle of the handheld device. The first signal type and the second signal type are different in at least one of frequency or modulation and are defined to include a same information related to the handheld device.

A stylus for use with a digitizer sensor includes a housing confined by a first and second end, a primary tip positioned at the first end of the housing and associated with a first transmitting element, the first transmitting element having a first diameter, a secondary tip positioned at the second end of the housing and associated with a second transmitting element, the second transmitting element having a second diameter that is larger than the first diameter, a transmitting unit for transmitting a first signal with a first amplitude via the first transmitting element and for transmitting a second signal with a second amplitude via the second transmitting element, wherein the first amplitude is at least twice the second amplitude and a powering unit for powering transmission of the first and second signal.
