A vegetation enhancement composite including a vegetation enhancement agent consisting of a first member selected from the group consisting of at least one macronutrient, micronutrient, nitrogen fertilizer including an inhibitor of nitrification activity, slow release fertilizer, and mixtures of such members and a pesticide; and at least one first controlled release film including a sulfonated polymer coating at least a portion of a surface of the vegetation enhancement agent. A method of producing controlled release fertilizers involving providing a vegetation enhancement agent consisting of a first member selected from the group consisting of at least one macronutrient, micronutrient, nitrogen fertilizer including an inhibitor of urease, nitrogen fertilizer including an inhibitor of nitrification activity, slow release fertilizer, and mixtures of such members and a pesticide; and coating at least one surface of the vegetation enhancement agent with a sulfonated polymer dissolved in a solvent system including an organic liquid to form a controlled release coating on the vegetation enhancement agent. The present invention relates to a process for the viscosification of an aqueous liquid which includes the steps of forming a solvent system of an organic liquid or oil and a polar cosolvent, the polar cosolvent being less than about 15 weight percent of the solvent system, a viscosity of the solvent system being less than about 1,000 cps; forming an interpolymer complex of neutralized sulfonated polymer (water insoluble) and copolymer of styrene/vinylpyridine in the solvent system to form a solution, a concentration of the water insoluble interpolymer complex polymer in the solution being about 0.01 to about 0.5 weight percent, a viscosity of the solution being less than about 200 cps; and admixing or contacting said solution with about 5 to about 500 volume percent water, the water being immiscible with the organic liquid and the polar cosolvent and interpolymer complex transferring from the organic liquid to the water phase, thereby causing the water phase to gel (i.e., thicken). The large increase in viscosity of the aqueous phase is directly attributed to the formation of a large number of minute water-filled particles dispersed in the continuous aqueous phase.

A composite comprising: a substrate; and a polymeric coating adhered to at least one surface of said substrate, said polymer coating having a thickness of about 1 to about 100 micrometers, wherein said polymer coating comprises a neutralized carboxylated polymer having a carboxylate content of about 5 to about 300 meq. per 100 grams of said neutralized carboxylated polymer.

This invention relates to extrusion and injection moldable type elastomeric compositions having a viscosity at 200.degree. C. at 0.73 sec.sup.-1 of about 8.times.10.sup.4 to about 8.times.10.sup.6 poises. The compositions used for elastomeric articles include neutralized sulfonated co- and terpolymers of octene-1/ethylene/ENB or sulfonated terpolymers of hexene-1/ethylene/ENB, about 15 to about 200 parts by weight of a non-polar process oil per 100 parts of polymer; about 50 to about 300 parts by weight of a filler per 100 parts of polymer; and a preferential plasticizer at about 1 to about 50 parts by weight per 100 parts of the sulfonated elastomeric polymer. The composition may also include a crystalline polyolefinic thermoplastic at less then about 100 parts per hundred by weight. These blend compositions can be readily processed due to their superior rheological properties on conventional plastic fabrication equipment into elastomeric articles having excellent physical properties and desirable rubbery characteristics.

A method for controlling the viscosity of organic liquids, said organic liquid having a solubility parameter of less than 9.5, a viscosity, as measured at 25.degree. The instant invention relates to a process for controlling the viscosity of organic liquids by incorporating in said liquid a minor amount of polymer complex, and optionally a cosolvent for the ionic groups of said polymer. The polymer complex comprises the reaction product of a metal neutralized sulfonated polymer and a basic nitrogen-containing polymer, wherein the polymer complex is substantially soluble in said organic liquid, and pendant sulfonate groups which are substantially insoluble in said organic liquid. The optional cosolvent is selected which will solubilize the pendant sulfonate groups and provide a reasonably homogeneous mixture of solvent, cosolvent and polymer complex. The preferred compositions prepared by the method of the instant invention comprise an organic liquid having a solubility parameter of from 6 to 10.5 in combination with a polymer complex containing from 0.2 up to 10.0 mole % sulfonate groups and nitrogen-containing groups, and optionally a nonvolatile alcohol or amine cosolvent.
