The present disclosure provides, according to some embodiments, methods and systems for selectively reducing, blocking or inhibiting at least part of the neural activity in an organ of a subject. In preferred embodiments, the method and system are used for selectively blocking at least part of the neural activity in a duodenum of a subject in need thereof. According to some embodiments, the selective blocking occurs through use of laser radiation. According to some embodiments, the selective blocking occurs through use of ultrasound energy. According to some embodiments, the selective blocking comprises causing damage to at least part of sensory nerves located within a target area while maintaining functional activity of tissue surrounding the sensory nerves by means of shielding it from the effects of laser radiation. According to some embodiments, the sensory nerves include neurons configured to transmit signals triggered by food passing through the duodenum, such as, but not limited to, neurohormonal signals.

Methods and systems for blocking neural activity in an organ of a subject, preferably in the small intestine or the duodenum

Described is a laser ablation system arranged to dynamically adjust power output to provide increased stability and reduced fluctuations of emitted energy. A system for testing an ablation system comprising an optical box and a catheter connector is disclosed. The system comprises a qualitative beam assessment device, a quantitative beam assessment device, and a processor. The qualitative beam assessment device has a camera configured to record signals related to a beam profile of a beam emitted by the optical box. The quantitative beam assessment device has an energy sensor configured to measure a beam energy of the beam. The processor is configured to receive the signals from the beam assessment devices, determine a qualitative condition of the beam based on the beam profile signals, and determine a quantitative condition of the beam based on the beam energy signals.

Devices and methods for testing ablation systems

Systems for enabling delivery of very high peak power laser pulses through optical fibers for use in ablation procedures preferably in contact mode. Such lasers advantageously emit at 355 nm wavelength. Other systems enable selective removal of undesired tissue within a blood vessel, while minimizing the risk of damaging the blood vessel itself, based on the use of the ablative properties of short laser pulses of 320 to 400 nm laser wavelength, with selected parameters of the mechanical walls of the tubes constituting the catheter, of the laser fluence and of the force that is applied by the catheter on the tissues. Additionally, a novel method of calibrating such catheters is disclosed, which also enables real time monitoring of the ablation process. Additionally, novel methods of protecting the fibers exit facets are disclosed.

Device and method for selectively ablating a submucosal layer of a duodenal wall and/or of sensory neurons therein, including a laser transmitting element coupled with the catheter body and configured to transmit a laser beam having a spot diameter of less than 200 microns and to provide an ablative dose of 0.5-2.5 J/mm; wherein the laser beam is configured to selectively ablate an area of the submucosal layer that is at least twice the size of the spot diameter, while essentially preventing damage of the surrounding mucosal, muscularis and/or serosal layers of the duodenal wall; and an expandable member configured to stretch the duodenal wall and to generate a fixed distance between the catheter's laser transmitting element and the duodenal wall.

A device for detection of internal bleeding in a patient's body is provided. An optical interface for transmitting IR light through an area of a skin of a patient and to collect IR light from the area of the skin, is provided. In some embodiments the optical interface includes one or more delivery components and one or more collection components.
