An image display device includes a display panel displaying an image, and a diffractive element formed to operate in a 2D mode or a 3D mode so that the image of the display panel is perceived as a 2D image or a 3D image after passing through the diffractive element. In the image display device, the diffractive element includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other, a first electrode layer formed on the first substrate that includes a plurality of zones, a second electrode layer formed on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. Further, when the diffractive element operates in the 3D mode, a common voltage is applied to the second electrode layer, and polarity of voltages applied to the first electrode layer with respect to the common voltage is inverted every zone.

A two-dimensional/three-dimensional switchable display apparatus includes: a display panel; a first substrate disposed on the display panel; a first electrode layer disposed on the first substrate and including a plurality of first electrodes; a second substrate disposed on the first substrate; a second electrode layer disposed on the second substrate and including a plurality of second electrodes; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates. A plurality of lens units are formed in association with a first position of the liquid crystal layer when a lens forming voltage profile is applied to the first electrodes and a common voltage is applied to the second electrodes. When the common voltage is applied to the first electrodes and the lens forming voltage is applied to the second electrodes, the plurality of lens units are formed in association with a second position spaced apart from the first position.

Two-dimensional/three-dimensional switchable display apparatus

A display apparatus includes a display panel, a lens plate and a lens driver. The display panel includes a plurality of unit pixels. The display panel is driven by dividing a single frame into N sub frames. N is a natural number. The lens plate is on the display panel. The lens plate includes a plurality of lenses which convert a two dimensional ('2D') image displayed on the display panel into a three dimensional ('3D') image. The lens driver disposes the lenses at a first position during a first sub frame. The lens driver moves the lenses to a second position from the first position and disposes the lenses at the second position during a second sub frame. The second position is shifted by 1/N of a width of the unit pixel from the first position.

Display apparatus and method of displaying three dimensional image using the same

A display apparatus includes a controller which generates a control signal based on at least one of a two-dimensional image and a three-dimensional stereoscopic image inputted from an outside, a panel including a plurality of pixels, where the plurality of pixels is arranged along a first direction and along a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction and displays the three-dimensional stereoscopic image having a plurality of viewpoints different from each other in each frame, a lens part including a plurality of lens units, where the plurality of lens units is disposed over the panel overlapping the pixels along the first direction and having a plurality of focal points which shifts in each frame, and a light source which supplies light to the panel.

A display substrate includes a transparent substrate, a gate line formed on the transparent substrate, a data line crossing the gate line, a thin film transistor electrically connected to the gate line and the data line, and a pixel electrode. The pixel electrode includes a body electrode section electrically connected to the thin film transistor and a plurality of protruding electrodes protruding from the body electrode section. Each of the protruding electrodes includes a trapezoidal electrode having two sides that are inclined with respect to a protrusion direction that is a lengthwise direction of the body electrode section.

An image display device includes a display panel displaying an image and a diffractive device. The diffractive device operates in a 2D mode to enable perception of a 2D image from the image of the display panel and in a 3D mode to enable perception of the image of the display panel as a 3D image. The diffractive device includes a plurality of unit devices. When the diffractive device operates in 3D mode, at least one of the plurality of unit devices operates in a lens mode and a barrier mode during different periods.

A method of fabricating a thin-film transistor (TFT) substrate includes forming a gate electrode on a substrate; forming an insulating film on the gate electrode; forming an amorphous semiconductor pattern on the insulating film; and forming a source electrode separated from a drain electrode on the amorphous semiconductor pattern; forming a light-concentrating layer, which includes a protrusion, on the amorphous semiconductor pattern, the source electrode, and the drain electrode; and crystallizing at least part of the amorphous semiconductor pattern by irradiating light to the protrusion of the light-concentrating layer.
