A method for providing video telephony is presented. By the method, a telephone directory of a broadcast receiving apparatus can be updated by receiving a telephone directory of a connected external device is provided. A call request signal can be transmitted to an information communication terminal of the user of an external broadcast receiving apparatus when the external broadcast receiving apparatus is turned off. A video telephony mode can change according to whether or not audio signals are transmitted and received when video telephony is connected. The volume of a plurality of windows can each be adjusted separately. As a result, users can utilize video telephony more conveniently.

Method for providing video telephony using broadcast receiving apparatus

An apparatus and method for generating a radio frequency (RF) signal and control signals are provided. In an apparatus for generating a radio frequency (RF) signal and control signals in which the current output from a plurality of light receiving elements is converted into voltage signals and the RF signal and the control signals are generated in response to the voltage signals, the apparatus includes an input data processing unit, a digital filter, a servo signal generating unit, a digital RF data generating unit, and a reference comparator. The input data processing unit performs time-sharing sampling on the voltage signals and converts the voltage signals into first digital signals in response to an analog/digital conversion clock signal having a predetermined period and a sequentially applied selection signal. The digital filter filters each of the first digital signals to modify the shape of the waveforms of the first digital signals and outputs the modified waveforms as second digital signals. The servo signal generating unit corrects delay time of the second digital signals and generates the control signals for servo control in response to the corrected signals. The digital RF data generating unit corrects delay time of the second digital signals before summing them to generate digital RF data. The reference comparator compares an average value of the digital RF data with the voltage level of the digital RF data in response to a predetermined demodulation clock signal and generates a non-return to zero (NRZ) signal in response to a compared result.

Apparatus and method for generating RF signal and control signals in optical disc system

An optical disc reproducing apparatus including a viterbi detector for an optical disc in which digital data is stored includes an optical pick-up for reading digital data stored in the optical disc and for generating a high frequency signal, an analog-to-digital converter for sampling and quantizing the high frequency signal, and a viterbi detector for decoding a quantized signal output from the analog-to digital converter and reproducing an eight to fourteen modulation (EFM)/EFM&plus;signal. The viterbi detector includes a branch metric calculator for receiving a signal constituted of n bits, for comparing the signal with previously set three variables, and for calculating a branch metric with respect to the input signal. A path metric update and storage unit receives the branch metric, adds the branch metric to values stored therein, compares the error content of all the possible paths with each other, and stores a metric with respect to the path having the smallest amount of errors. A path memory receives the output signal of the path metric update and storage unit and generates a viterbi decoded recovery signal. A stable eight to fourteen modulation (EFM)/EFM&plus;signal is reproduced.

In a data recovery apparatus and method for an optical disk reproduction system, a technique for digital recovery of data from an analog radio frequency (RF) signal is provided. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) converts an analog radio frequency (RF) signal into a digital signal in response to a reference clock signal. A first adder combines an asymmetry error level to the digital RF signal. An adaptive digital equalizer digitally controls the level of the result added by the first adder, in response to a control signal. A digital level detector calculates the asymmetry error amount using the result added by the first adder, and outputs the control signal according to the output of the adaptive digital equalizer and predetermined coefficients. A viterbi decoder decodes the output of the adaptive digital equalizer into a bit train. A digital edge detector calculates the accuracy of sampling by the analog-to-digital converter, using the result added by the first adder, and outputs phase and frequency control signals according to the calculated accuracy. A reference signal generator outputs the reference clock signal having a frequency which varies in response to the phase and frequency control signals. Thus, data can be accurately recovered.
