A video processing apparatus includes an input unit to which a video signal containing content is input, a first detector which detects a color of light in the surroundings, a second detector which detects whether a pattern portion formed of a single color of black or white is contained in the video signal input to the input unit, a corrector which corrects the video signal input to the input unit, and a controller. The controller conducts control so that the corrector corrects the video signal input to the input unit according to the color of light detected by the first detector if the second detector detects that the pattern portion formed of the single color of black or white is contained in the video signal input to the input unit.

A video processing apparatus includes a detector which detects whether pattern portions such as wallpaper portions having a pattern or the like or no-picture area portions having a single color are contained besides contents in a video signal input thereto, and a corrector which corrects the video signal. An image display system includes a display device, an input section to which video signals of an interlace scanning system are inputted, a signal converter section which increases horizontal scanning lines of the inputted video signals in number by a factor of at least two, and which generates first and second fields, each of the fields including effective scanning lines used for displaying and ineffective scanning lines not used for displaying, with the effective and ineffective scanning lines being arranged alternately in each of the fields, and a display control section which controls the display device to display the first and second fields alternately. The display control section controls the display device such that positions of the effective scanning lines of the first fields correspond with those of the ineffective scanning lines of the second fields, and vice versa.

An image display apparatus capable of adjusting a display picture by an input unit through a computer body is disclosed. When the user inputs a control instruction for adjusting the display picture of the display unit by the input unit connected to the computer body, a control signal addition circuit prepares a control signal Sc corresponding to the control instruction and adds the control signal to a video signal R, G or B or a synchronizing signal Hs or Vs produced by a display control circuit during a vertical retrace period. A control signal separation circuit separates the added control signal Sc from the video signal R, G or B or the synchronizing signal Hs or Vs produced by the control signal addition circuit. A display control circuit produces adjustment signals Sa and Sb on the basis of the control signal from the control signal separation circuit to adjust a video circuit and a deflection circuit. Thus, the user can adjust the display picture by the input unit near at hand without extending the hands to adjustment switches of the display unit.

A display unit having a communication control circuit for communicating with an externally connected computer and which enables bi-directional communication with the display unit and the computer. The communication control circuit includes a comparator for comparing first identification information which is previously stored in said display unit and second identification information which is previously stored in the computer and is sent from the computer. The communication control circuit further includes at least one of a communication prohibitor for prohibiting communication between the computer with respect to display control of the display unit, when the first and second identification information do not match as a result of the comparison by the comparator or communication permitter for enabling communication for display control as a result of a match.
