A softening agent composition including (1) a silicone polymer, (2) a water-repellent polymer, (3) an emulsifier, and (4) a liquid medium that is water or a mixture of water and an organic solvent. Also disclosed is a method for producing the softening agent composition which includes producing a water-repellent polymer by polymerizing, in the presence of the silicone polymer, a monomer that constitutes the water-repellent polymer. The water-repellent polymer may be at least one selected from the group consisting of fluorine-containing polymers and non-fluorine-containing polymers. Also disclosed is a method for treating a substrate with the softening agent composition and a substrate treated with the softening agent composition.

Water-repellent softening agent

A fluorine-containing polymer including a repeat unit derived from a fluorine-containing monomer (A1) and a repeat unit derived from a hydrocarbon group-bearing fluorine-free monomer (A2). The fluorine-free monomer (A2) is preferably at least one monomer selected from (A2-1) R—C(═O)—NH—R—O—R, (A2-2) CH═C(—R)—C(═O)—Y—Z(—Y—R), and (A2-3) XN(H)—R. A surface treatment agent containing: (A) a water repellent oil repellent polymer having a repeating unit derived from at least one water repellent oil repellent monomer selected from (A1) fluorine-containing monomers and (A2) non-fluorine monomers having a hydrocarbon group with 7-40 carbon atoms; (B) a silicone polymer represented by formula RSi—O—[—Si(R)—O—]—[—Si(R)(R)—O—]—SiR(wherein each Rgroup independently represents hydrogen, alkyl having 1-20 carbon atoms, aryl having 6-20 carbon atoms or alkoxy having 1-4 carbon atoms; each Rindependently represents a saturated hydrocarbon group having 23-40 carbon atoms; each Rindependently represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-20 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6-20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1-4 carbon atoms or a saturated hydrocarbon group having 23-40 carbon atoms; a represents an integer of 0 or more; b represents an integer of 1 or more; and (a+b) is 10-200); and (C) a liquid medium.

Surface treatment agent

A water- and oil-repellent agent that is an aqueous dispersion containing (A) a fluorine-free polymer having repeating units derived from a fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer, (B) a wax, (C) an aqueous medium, and (D) an emulsifier. The fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer is a compound represented by the formula CH&#x2550;CA-C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-Awhere Ais a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and Ais a linear or branched Chydrocarbon group. The emulsifier includes a sorbitan ester and another emulsifier, and the emulsifier has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of 7.5 to 13.5. Also disclosed is a method of producing the water- and oil-repellent agent and a method of producing a treated substrate by applying the water- and oil-repellent agent to a substrate.

A method for producing a paper, which includes applying at least one of ionizing radiation and plasma to at least one of a paper base and a compound (A) selected from: a compound having a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond and containing no fluorine atom in a molecular structure, and a compound containing no fluorine atom in a molecular structure in which radicals are generated by irradiation of an electron beam to the compound, to introduce a layer formed from the compound (A) on a surface of the paper base.

Provided is a surface treatment agent which does not use fluorine-containing monomers, particularly fluoroalkyl group-containing monomers. Provided is a water repellent composition which does not use a fluorine-containing monomer, especially a fluoroalkyl group-containing monomer. A water repellent composition which contains (1) (a) a polymer which has a repeating unit derived from an amide group-containing monomer that is represented by formula: (wherein R1 represents an organic residue having an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable group; R2 represents a hydrocarbon group having 7-30 carbon atoms; and R3 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-5 carbon atoms) in an amount of 2-100% by weight relative to the polymer, and (2) a liquid medium.

Water repellent composition

Provided is a surface treatment agent which does not use fluorine-containing monomers, particularly fluoroalkyl group-containing monomers. Additionally, provided is a copolymer which includes a first polymer formed from first monomers, and a second polymer formed from second monomers. The copolymer does not include fluorine. The second polymer is polymerized in the presence of the first polymer. The first monomers include a long-chain acrylate ester monomer (a) represented by the formula CH=CA-C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-A(in the formula, Arepresents hydrogen, a monovalent organic group, or a halogen, and Arepresents a Cstraight-chain or branched hydrocarbon group). The first monomers and the second monomers both include a halogenated olefin monomer (b).

Copolymer, and surface treatment agent

Disclosed is a fluorine-containing composition which contains a fluorine-containing polymer that has repeating units respectively derived from (A) a fluorine-containing monomer that is an alpha-chloroacrylate having a fluoroalkyl group, (B) a monomer that has a linear or branched hydrocarbon group but does not have a fluoroalkyl group, and (C) a monomer that has a cyclic hydrocarbon group but does not have a fluoroalkyl group. This fluorine-containing composition is capable of providing a base such as a fiber product with excellent water repellency, especially strong water repellency.

A surface treatment agent, which can impart the excellent water- and oil-repellency, soil resistance and feeling to the substrate, is obtained from a fluorine-containing polymer which contains: (A) a monomer which comprises; (A1) a fluorine-containing monomer of the formula: CH&#x2550;C(&#x2014;X)&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;Y&#x2014;Z&#x2014;Rf wherein X is a hydrogen atom, a monovalent organic group, or a halogen atom, Y is &#x2014;O&#x2014; or &#x2014;NH&#x2014;, Z is a direct bond or a divalent organic group, and Rf is a fluoroalkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and (A2) a (meth)acrylate monomer having a cyclic hydrocarbon group, and (B) at least one functional organopolysiloxane selected from the group consisting of a mercapto-functional organopolysiloxane, a vinyl-functional organopolysiloxane, a (meth)acrylamide-functional organopolysiloxane and a (meth)acrylate-functional group.

Fluorosilicone polymers and surface treatment agent

A fluorine-containing polymer having (a) a repeating unit derived from a fluorine-containing monomer indicated by the formula CH&#x2550;C(&#x2014;X)&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;Y&#x2014;Z&#x2014;Rf, (b) a repeating unit derived from a cyclic-hydrocarbon-group-containing acrylate ester monomer indicated by the formula CH&#x2550;CQ&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-Q, and (c) a repeating unit derived from an aliphatic-hydrocarbon-group-containing acrylate ester monomer indicated by the formula CH&#x2550;CQ&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-Q. The fluorine-containing polymer is produced by polymerizing in the presence of one or both of (d) a silicon-containing monomer and a silicon-containing chain transfer agent.

Disclosed is a fluorine-containing polymer prepared by polymerizing (I) a polyfluoroalkyl group-containing (meth)acrylate which is substituted at alpha-position, in the presence of (II) a blocked isocyanate compound. A water- and oil-repellent composition containing the fluorine-containing polymer can impart the excellent water- and oil-repellency, and excellent durability thereof to substrates.
