A temperature and humidity compensating device is provided in electrophotographic apparatus including a photosensitive medium having a photoconductive layer, an image forming unit for forming an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive medium, a heat source disposed near the photosensitive medium for heating the latter, a temperature detector disposed remotely from the heat source for detecting the temperature of the photosensitive medium, and control means for controlling the heating of the heat source so that the temperature of the photosensitive medium detected by the detector is not lower than the ambient temperature. Thus, the photosensitive medium may be prevented from deterioration due to falling temperature and moisture absorption, thereby permitting a normal image formation to be achieved.

Electrophotographic copying apparatus of this invention includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member, elements for forming an electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member, and for liquid developing the latent image, and elements for removing an excess liquid developer after the development and for applying thereafter substantially uniformly an electric field on the surface of the photosensitive member with the aid, for example, of a corona discharger or an electrode. The developed image is then transferred onto a transfer material and the photosensitive member is cleaned after the transfer, wherein each of these last two functions may be accomplished by conventional elements.

Evaporation of an evaporative liquid on an image-bearing member bearing thereon an electrostatic latent image or a visualized image may be prevented by removing the evaporative liquid before the image-bearing member is stopped, thereby preventing the liquid from evaporating from the surface of the image-bearing member during stoppage thereof.
