In the case of implementing a polarization separation circuit, a polarization rotator, and the like by inserting a thin-film element into a substrate in one optical interference circuit, one common large-sized groove shared among a plurality of thin-film elements for their insertion has been formed. The optical waveguide type device of the present invention is configured such that at least one groove intersects only one corresponding optical waveguide for inserting the thin-film element and does not intersect other optical waveguides adjacent to the one corresponding optical waveguide. This groove substantially has a rectangular shape, and has a minimum size adapted to the thin-film element to be inserted so as to stably hold and fix the thin-film element in the groove. Adjacent grooves are formed so as to be arranged such that their portions in a direction substantially vertical to the optical waveguide are facing each other.

Optical waveguide device

A package for optical module includes a flat-plate-shaped metal base, and a ceramic circuit board in which a plurality of terminals are arranged in a longitudinal direction, and which is joined to an upper surface of the metal base by soldering. The ceramic circuit board has a shape change portion in which the ceramic circuit board is changed in shape along the longitudinal direction, and a region of the ceramic circuit board not including the shape change portion is joined to the metal base by soldering. The shape change portion of the ceramic circuit board is a portion where a width is changed along the longitudinal direction, or a portion where a thickness is changed along the longitudinal direction.

Package for optical module

In an integrated optical receiver or transmitter, both the displacement of an optical axis caused by thermal changes and the property degradation of an optical functional circuit are inhibited. A planar lightwave circuit having a substrate and a waveguide-type optical functional circuit formed thereon composed of a material different from that of the substrate, and includes a waveguide region formed only of an optical wavelength that is in contact with a side forming an emission-end face of the optical waveguide for propagating the light emitted from the optical functional circuit or an incident-end face of an optical waveguide for propagating the light incident on the optical functional circuit. The planar lightwave circuit is fixed to a fixing mount only at the bottom of the substrate where the waveguide region is formed.

Planar lightwave circuit

A multiplexer/demultiplexer that functions as an extremely small AWG optical filter in order to prepare a miniaturized and low-cost transceiver module necessary to realize a high speed transceiver for Ethernet (registered trademark). An optical multiplexer/demultiplexer includes: at least one input waveguide, a first slab waveguide, an arrayed waveguide group, a second slab waveguide, and at least one output waveguide. Each of the waveguides of the arrayed waveguide group has: a first bent part of which a waveguide extending direction changes 180 degrees or more; and a second bent part of which a waveguide extending direction changes 180 degrees or more in a direction opposite to a direction of the change of the first bent part.

Optical multiplexer/demultiplexer

A light-receiving package for flat-plate mounting which can make monitor reception sensitivity of an optical signal constant without increasing the size of a module. The light-receiving package for flat-plate mounting is provided with a first subassembly in which a photo diode is fixed to a front surface of a retaining holder, a back surface of the retaining holder is a flat surface capable of moving parallel on a plane parallel to a light-receiving surface of the photo diode and a second subassembly which has a rectangular U-shaped concave holder for retaining the retaining holder, and a flat-plate base disposed on a substrate and in which a surface of the flat-plate base that is mounted on the substrate is a flat surface capable of moving parallel to a substrate surface, the rectangular U-shaped concave holder and the flat-plate base are fixed, at least one of surfaces of the concave holder having a rectangular U-shape being a flat surface is a flat surface capable of moving parallel to the back surface of the retaining holder.

Light-receiving package for flat-plate mounting, and optical module

An objective is to provide an integrated optical module which can avoid positional change and separation of a PLC chip when humidity changes. Provided is an integrated optical module characterized in that the integrated optical module includes: a PLC chip; a seat bonded and fixed to part of a lower surface of the PLC chip with an adhesive which is applied to an adhesion surface of the seat; and a support portion supporting the seat, in which a water-repellent treatment portion is provided by masking an upper portion of the support portion with a water-repellent material. The water-repellent treatment portion is provided only around the seat for a predetermined width. The water-repellent treatment portion is provided around the seat for a width of 100 &#x3bc;m or more.

Integrated optical module

A low-cost optical module with highly consistent properties. The optical module includes, in a housing, an optical waveguide array, an optical functional element array, lens optics using one or a plurality of lenses for optically coupling the optical waveguide array and the optical functional element array, and a mirror disposed so as to convert the propagation direction of optical beams transmitted by the lens optics such that the optical beams are incident on the optical incidence ports of the optical functional element array. The optical functional element array is affixed to the housing, and the angle of the mirror is fixed in place after the angle of the mirror is adjusted such that the optical waveguide array and the optical functional element array are optically coupled.

Optical module

An optical module for receiving light according to a digital coherent optical transmission scheme includes two optical fibers, and a monitor PD. The optical signal processing circuit includes a substrate, an optical waveguide layer made up of a core and a clad layer stacked on top of the substrate, and fixtures stacked on top of the clad layer on the one end, and is provided with a light shield member which spans the substrate, the clad layer, and the edge face of the fixture on the edge face of the optical signal processing circuit that faces the monitor PD, and which includes an aperture unit aligned with the given site where the diverted signal light is output.

An optical module has a structure for reducing the stress applied to a package. The optical module is structured so that an end face of a waveguide () of a planar lightwave circuit () is joined to a plurality of packages () storing therein optical elements so that the waveguide is optically coupled to the optical elements. The optical module includes a housing () storing therein a planar lightwave circuit and a plurality of packages in which an upper face of a protrusion () formed in the bottom section is fixed to the planar lightwave circuit (). Each of the plurality of packages () is electrically connected to an electric part () provided in the housing () via flexible printed circuits ().

The present invention provides an optical functional circuit where a holographic wave propagation medium is applied and a circuit property is excellent such as small transmission loss and crosstalk. The optical functional circuit where a plurality of circuit elements are formed on a substrate includes the wave propagation medium for converting an optical path of a leakage light so that the leakage light that is not emitted from a predetermined output port of the circuit element is not coupled to a different circuit element. This wave propagation medium is constituted by an optical waveguide that is provided with a clad layer formed on the substrate and a core embedded in the clad layer, and a part of the optical waveguide is formed in accordance with a refractive index distribution which is multiple scattered.

Optical functional circuit

Wave transmission medium and waveguide circuit

An opto-electronic hybrid integrated circuit of the present invention satisfies a low-loss optical waveguide function, an optical bench function and a high-frequency electrical wiring function. The circuit includes a substrate such as a silicon substrate, a dielectric optical waveguide part arranged in a recess of the substrate, and an optical device mounting part formed on a protrusion of the substrate. An electrical wiring part is disposed on the dielectric layer. The optical device is mounted on the substrate. An optical sub-module includes the optical device which is possible to mount on the substrate.
