In a shuttleless air jet loom, a method for preventing a weft yarn having therein a defective portion, such as a too thin or too thick portion falling outside a predetermined range of limits, from being inserted into the shed and therefore woven in the fabric, is disclosed. In normal weaving operation, the weft yarn is monitored by a weft yarn sensor which is provided in the path of the weft yarn passage, and the weaving operation of the loom is interrupted when the sensor provides a signal representing a defective portion in the yarn. The yarn thus having the defect is deflected from its normal passage when it is to be picked into the shed. After the defective weft yarn has been disposed of, the loom is reversed to a shed-opening position where restarting of the weaving operation of the loom may be effected smoothly.

A method for preparing weft supply to be picked upon starting the operation of a weaving loom, the weaving loom comprising a main motor for driving the weaving loom, a crank shaft driven by the main motor, a drum for measuring weft to be picked by a main air jet nozzle, a driving system of the weft measuring drum, and an auxiliary motor for driving the weft measuring drum. The method comprises releasing the normal connection between the driving system of the weft measuring drum and the main motor for driving the weaving loom so as to enable an auxiliary motor to drive the driving system of the weft measuring drum. The weft measuring drum is then positioned by the auxiliary motor at a position suitable for being threaded with the weft. The weft is then threaded onto the weft measuring drum, whereupon the weft measuring drum is driven by the auxiliary motor so as to store a predetermined amount of weft thereon.

An apparatus for locating a servicing device which travels along a parent textile machine, such as a spinning frame, having a plurality of stations and stops at any designated station of the parent machine to there perform a servicing operation, such as yarn piecing or cleaning by use of fluid, such as compressed air or vacuum, supplied from a fluid source provided separately from the servicing device. The apparatus comprises, on each station of the parent machine, a stationary connector communicating with the fluid source and a locating guide member having a locating guide groove therein, and, on the servicing device, an air cylinder, a locating rod actuated by the cylinder toward and away from the locating guide member and engageable with the guide groove and a communicating member movable together with the locating rod and engageable with the stationary connector. In operation, the connectors are coupled to establish a communication between the fluid source and the servicing device after the locating rod has engaged with the guide groove thereby to locate the servicing device correctly. Because the locating rod and the communicating member are moved substantially in an integral manner by a single actuator, accurate and reliable locating of the servicing device may be accomplished.
