A method for making a positive photosensitive planographic printing plate including of a base having formed thereon in this order an undercoat layer and an image recording layer, wherein the undercoat layer is obtained by applying an undercoat layer solution containing a solvent and an acrylic resin having an alkali-soluble group, followed by drying the coating, the image recording layer contains a novolac resin and an infrared absorbing agent, and the applied undercoat layer solution is dried in an undercoat layer drying step which includes a steam-containing hot air drying step using steam-containing hot air having a temperature of 90&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C., and a relative humidity of 8% to 70%.

A positive type photosensitive image-forming material for use with an infrared laser is provided. The material includes a substrate, a layer (A) containing not less than 50% by weight of a copolymer which contains, as a copolymerization component, not less than 10% by mol of at least one of the following monomers (a-1) to (a-3), wherein (a-1) is a monomer having in the molecule a sulfonamide group wherein at least one hydrogen atom is linked to a nitrogen atom, (a-2) is a monomer having in the molecule an active imino group represented by the following general formula (I):and (a-3) is a monomer selected from acrylamide, methacrylamide, acrylate, methacrylate and hydroxystyrene, which respectively have a phenolic hydroxyl group; and a layer (B) containing not less than 50% by weight of an aqueous alkali solution-soluble resin having a phenolic hydroxyl group. The layer (A) and the layer (B) are laminated on the substrate in that order. At least the layer (B) contains a compound which generates heat upon absorbing light. The image-forming material has excellent stability of sensitivity with regard to concentration of a developing solution, i.e., has excellent development latitude.

Positive type photosensitive image-forming material for use with an infrared laser

The planographic printing plate precursor according to the present invention includes: a support; and a photosensitive layer provided on the support and containing a polymer having the structural unit represented by the following Formula (1) and an acid coloring colorant represented by the following Formula (2). The planographic printing plate precursor is superior in each of chemical resistance, solubilization discrimination, and image reproducibility.  In Formula (1) above, X represents a bivalent connected group; Rrepresents an alkyl or aryl group; and x is 0 or 1. An infrared-sensitive planographic printing plate precursor including: a support; a recording layer capable of forming an image through infrared irradiation provided on or above one surface of the support, the recording layer containing a resin, which is water-insoluble and alkali-soluble, and an infrared absorbent; and an organic polymer layer provided on or above the other surface of the support, wherein when the organic polymer layer is formed, a solvent is used, and the total amount of solvent remaining in the organic polymer layer is 10 mg per gram of the organic polymer or less is provided.

An image recording material of the present invention comprises an anodized aluminum support, an intermediate layer containing a polymer having a carboxylic acid group in a side chain thereof and formed on the aluminum support, and a photosensitive layer containing at least 50% by weight or more of novolak type phenol resin and a photothermal conversion agent and recordable by IR laser beam. A planographic printing plate excellent in printing durability can be obtained by subjecting the image recording material imagewise to IR laser exposure treatment and to development treatment, and then heating the image recording material at 150 to 300&#xb0; C.

A process for producing a heat mode-compatible positive planographic printing plate precursor comprising a support and a photosensitive layer whose solubility in an aqueous alkali solution increases upon heat-mode exposure, which includes: applying a photosensitive layer coating solution onto the support, and drying the photosensitive layer coating solution at a drying temperature not less than 150&#xb0; C. and not greater than 200&#xb0; C. and for a drying time of 110 seconds or less.
