An apparatus and method for detection of methane in an environment, including a housing with a sensor printed circuit board and a processor printed circuit board interconnected to and thermally insulated from the sensor printed circuit board. The sensor printed circuit board includes a first tuning fork isolated from the environment, and a second tuning fork exposed to the environment. The tuning forks are attached to opposite sides of the sensor printed circuit board. The processor printed circuit board includes processing circuitry interconnected to the first tuning fork and the second tuning fork, which receives vibration frequency signals therefrom, and is programmed to determine a frequency difference between the frequency of vibration of the first tuning fork and the frequency vibration of the second tuning fork, and if the frequency difference is greater than a predetermined threshold, then setting an alarm to indicate the presence of methane.

Methane gas sensor

A silicon based material in the form of sheet-like silicon porous particles in an electrically conductive material matrix wherein said silicon particles contain nano-sized pores, and a method of producing thereof, are disclosed. The material and the method allow obtaining Li ion batteries with high electric charge capacity and improved cycling performance of the battery anode.

Forming a conductive film comprising depositing a non-conductive film on a surface of a substrate, wherein the film contains a plurality of copper nanoparticles and exposing at least a portion of the film to light to make the exposed portion conductive. Exposing of the film to light photosinters or fuses the copper nanoparticles.

Metallic ink

A solution of metal ink is mixed and then printed or dispensed onto the substrate using the dispenser. The film then is dried to eliminate water or solvents. In some cases, a thermal curing step can be introduced subsequent to dispensing the film and prior to the photo-curing step. The substrate and deposited film can be cured using an oven or by placing the substrate on the surface of a heater, such as a hot plate. Following the drying and/or thermal curing step, a laser beam or focused light from the light source is directed onto the surface of the film in a process known as direct writing. The light serves to photo-cure the film such that it has low resistivity.

Nanoparticle inks and powders are sintered using an applied mechanical energy, such as uniaxial pressure, hydrostatic pressure, and ultrasonic energy, which may also include applying a sheer force to the inks or powders in order to make the resultant film or line conductive.

Mechanical sintering of nanoparticle inks and powders

An ion trap instrument working at atmospheric pressure, which alleviates requirements of bulky, power consuming vacuum pumps. Traps can accumulate selected ion species, effectively concentrating the analyte of interest and allowing laser spectroscopy to be performed. This lowers the detection threshold of this instrument compared to others and increases the selectivity.

An elliptical photo-acoustic spectrometer chamber design will result in a larger intensity signal at the pick-up microphone and allow high frequency light modulation. This makes the spectrometer have a lower limit of detection threshold, and will increase the signal to noise ratio in general for the instrument, resulting in a more sensitive instrument allowing more precise measurements.

Elliptical photo-acoustic sensor

A method and apparatus for assembly of small structures is disclosed. The present invention discloses electron beams created from one or more nanotips in an array operated in a field emission mode that can be controlled to apply heat to very well defined spots. The multiple electron beams may be generated and deflected and applied to electron beam heating and welding applications.

Nanospot welder and method

Sensing a gas includes introducing a gas into a chamber, forming a standing acoustic wave in the chamber, and irradiating the chamber with electromagnetic radiation. Some of the electromagnetic radiation passes into the chamber, through the standing acoustic wave in the chamber, and out of the chamber. An amount of electromagnetic radiation that passes out of the chamber, or is transmitted through the chamber, is detected. A concentration of the gas in the chamber can be assessed.

Sono-photonic gas sensor

An optoelectronic modulator is based on the concentration of an electron beam from an electron gun by a tapered cavity, which sides are photosensitive and change the electrical conductivity under the illumination of light (electromagnetic radiation). The light modulation causes the corresponding changes in the current transported across the walls of the cavity. The remaining part of the electron current exits the cavity aperture and forms an amplitude-modulated divergent electron beam.

Hydrogen sensor

A method of micro- and nanotexturing of various solid surfaces in plasma where carbon nanotubes are used as an etch mask. The method allows obtaining textures with feature sizes that can be controlled with the nanotube dimensions and the density of coating the treated surface.

The present invention is for a porous silicon powder comprising silicon particles wherein the outermost layers of said particles are porous. The present invention is also directed to a method of making this porous silicon powder using a stain etch method. The present invention is also directed to a method of making silicon nanoparticles from the porous silicon powders using a process of ultrasonic agitation. The present invention also includes methods of processing these silicon nanoparticles for use in a variety of applications.
