A method of generating search query suggestions for a search query received in a search application. The method is executable by a processor communicatively coupled to the search application. The method includes receiving a search query and an indication of a current cursor position with respect thereto. The search query is a received search query and includes at least one received search query term. Responsive to the current cursor position being one of a plurality of predefined cursor positions, one of a plurality of suggest algorithms corresponding to one of a plurality of predefined suggest actions associated with the current cursor position is executed to define a suggested search query. Each one of the plurality of predefined cursor positions has associated therewith at least one of the plurality of predefined suggest actions. Each one of the plurality of predefined suggest actions corresponds to one of the plurality of suggest algorithms.

Method and system for generating search query suggestions

There are provided methods and systems for generating a refined search engine results page (SERP) for a search query received from a user. A search query result set is generated in response to the search query and displayed to the user on a SERP. A user interest parameter for a search result element is generated based at least in part on user interaction with the search result element on the SERP, based on summing a first and second weight for the search result element on a first and second search result, respectively. A second search query including the initial search query, the search result element, and the user interest parameter as a reformulation of the initial search query indicating significance of the search result element is generated, and the search query results generated in response to the second search query are displayed to the user, thereby generating the refined SERP.

Methods and systems for refining search results

Method of furnishing search engine system search results, comprising: Receiving a search query including information indicative of a property of an application originating the search query. Effecting a search of posting lists to determine search results in respect of the search query, the search results having a relevance rank order. Determining a probable user search result interaction sequence based on information related to previous user interactions with search results having been provided by the system and based on the information indicative of the property of the application originating the search query. The probable user search result interaction sequence being different from the relevance rank order of the search results. Sending the search results, including information allowing for visual configuration of the search results provided to the user by the application originating the search query according to the probable user search result interaction sequence, while maintaining the relevance rank order.
