One aspect includes a method for constructing a specified virtual solution, comprising: obtaining a solution profile from a solution repository catalog, wherein the solution profile identifies one or more resources for the specified virtual solution; acquiring the one or more resources identified by the solution profile from one or more devices; and assembling the acquired one or more resources in accordance with the solution profile to construct the specified virtual solution. Another aspect includes a method for providing a Resource-as-a-Service (RaaS) functionality in a cloud architecture, comprising: implementing a software defined infrastructure comprising distributed workload placement, location management, and data management; and implementing a RaaS layer comprising resource discovery and registration of capabilities.

Cloud enabling resources as a service

Offline functionality-based co-ranking and clustering is carried out on a knowledge base that characterizes a heterogeneous information technology services network including a plurality of services, a plurality of providers, and a plurality of attributes. Results of the functionality-based co-ranking and clustering are stored as annotations of the services and the providers in the knowledge base, to obtain an annotated knowledge base. A service requirement is obtained from a customer requiring information technology services. The annotated knowledge base is queried, based on the service requirement; and an ordered list of at least given ones of the services, based on the querying, is returned to the customer.

A method for providing a cloud-based service includes receiving information from a customer of the service over a conversational interface, the information identifying a requirement of the customer related to a resiliency of the service, and identifying a service provider who provides the service in a manner that satisfies the requirement. A method for building a knowledge base of cloud-based service providers includes receiving information from a service provider, the information specifying at least one resiliency attribute of the service provider, matching the information to a standardized service descriptor, wherein the service descriptor is indexed within an ontology-based organizational framework that indexes a plurality of service descriptors, and storing the service descriptor for the service provider.

A distributed component software system that includes an analysis server that: (i) receives a set of messages, where each message is sent between components of a distributed component software system (DCSS), and where each message includes an identification of a respective source component, an identification of a respective target component and respective message content; (ii) for each message of the set of received messages, resolves the respective source component; (iii) for each message of the set of received messages, resolves the respective source component; (iv) determines a sequence of the plurality of messages; and (v) generates a human-understandable abstract corresponding to the set of received messages based upon the respective message sources, the respective message targets, the respective message content and the sequence of the set of received messages.

Automatic abstraction of flow of control in a distributed virtualization platform

A solution descriptor comprises a set of component workload units, a workload unit describing a deployable application component with application binary, configuration parameters and dependency declarations. An environment descriptor specifies a set of target platforms and plugins in an execution environment. A deployer interprets the solution descriptor and the environment descriptor, and generates a list of tuples comprising compatible workload-plugin-platform combinations. The deployer determines an execution order for the list of tuples, and invokes the plugins in the list of tuples in the execution order, wherein each of the plugins executes a corresponding compatible workload on a corresponding compatible target platform specified in the list of tuples.

Various embodiments predict performance of a system including a plurality of server tiers. In one embodiment, a first set of performance information is collected for a base allocation of computing resources across multiple server tiers in the plurality of sever tiers for a set of workloads. A set of experimental allocations of the computing resources is generated on a tier-by-tier basis. Each of the set of experimental allocations varies the computing resources allocated by the base allocation for a single server tier of the multiple server tiers. A second set of performance information associated with the single server tier for each of the set of experimental allocations is collected for a plurality of workloads. At least one performance characteristic of at least one candidate allocation of computing resources across the multiple server tiers is predicted for a given workload based on the first and second sets of performance information.

Prediction-based provisioning planning for cloud environments

In an approach for creating a service composition, a processor receives a plurality of software modules, wherein each software module performs part of a service requested by one or more users on a network. A processor collects one or more attributes and one or more dependencies for each of the plurality of software modules. A processor appends information about the attributes and the dependencies to each respective software module. A processor stores each of the plurality of software modules with the respective appended information in a database. A processor creates a service composition comprised of a combination of the plurality of software modules, based on the appended information and the service requested by the one or more users on the network.

Refining composition instrumentation for services

An embodiment of the invention includes a system for partitioning asset management plugins. The system includes an application program interface for performing basic CRUD functions on assets having multiple asset types. At least one plugin having plugin components is provided, wherein the plugin manages at least one asset having a specific asset type (of the multiple asset types). The plugin components include a CRUD component, a state component, an actions component, and/or a view component. The system further includes plugin containers for hosting the plugin components, the plugin containers include at least one client-side plugin container and at least one server-side plugin container. The plugin components are partitioned and distributed from the plugin components to the plugin containers by a plugin server based on capabilities of the client.

Method and system for partitioning asset management plugins

A natural language specification of at least one high level information technology services requirement is obtained from a user, via a conversational interface; the same is parsed into first pre-defined semi-structured data, using a conversation parser. Based on the first pre-defined semi-structured data, a subset of candidate information technology services is identified, with a dialog engine, from a plurality of candidate information technology services provided by a plurality of vendors, the dialog engine is used to formulate a response including second pre-defined semi-structured data. The response is reverse-parsed into a natural language response, using the conversation parser. The natural language response includes a question for the user to assist in further refining the subset of candidate information technology services; the natural language response is presented to the user via the conversational interface.
