A method for manufacturing a motor lead cable includes the steps of forming one or more motor leads and placing external armor around the one or motor leads. The step of forming each of the one or more motor leads includes providing an insulated conductor, providing an open capillary tube that has opposing sides that have not been joined together, placing the insulated conductor inside the unclosed capillary tube, approximating the sides of the unclosed capillary tube around the insulated conductor, and welding the sides of the capillary tube together to form a closed capillary tube around the insulated conductor.

A submersible well pump has a rotatable drive shaft extending through pump stages. Each of the stages has a diffuser, an impeller and a bushing fixed for non-rotation in the diffuser. A thrust member has a lower side in sliding rotating engagement with the upward facing surface of the bushing. The bushing and the thrust member are of a harder material than the diffuser and the impeller. A drive member of a softer material than the thrust member is in engagement with the thrust member and has a drive member bore through which the shaft extends. A key extends through the shaft groove, the impeller groove and the drive member groove to cause the impeller and thrust member to rotate with the shaft.

An electrical submersible pump has a tubular pump housing containing centrifugal pump stages and a rotatable shaft. A bearing mounts in the housing and has a shaft passage through which the shaft extends. A sensor hole extends through the housing and into the bearing. A temperature sensor is located within the sensor hole. The sensor hole has a closed end radially outward from the shaft passage. A sensor line leads from the temperature sensor to a sensing unit mounted at an upper or a lower end of the pump assembly.

A submersible pump assembly includes a seal section connected to a motor, the seal section having a housing with an outboard bearing at a housing pump end in radial supporting engagement with a drive shaft. An inboard bearing is also in the housing pump end, axially spaced from the outboard bearing, and in radial supporting engagement with the shaft. A barrier fluid chamber in the housing pump end contains a barrier fluid. A primary shaft seal is located within the barrier fluid chamber and seals the barrier fluid in the barrier fluid chamber from the motor lubricant. A secondary shaft seal is mounted in the barrier fluid chamber between the primary shaft seal and the outboard bearing. The secondary shaft seal seals the barrier fluid in the barrier fluid chamber from well fluid exterior of the housing pump end.

A centrifugal well pump assembly has a non-rotating diffuser between upper and lower rotating impellers. The upper impeller has a cylindrical skirt on a lower side that rotates within a diffuser receptacle. The lower impeller has a cylindrical balance ring on an upper side that rotates within a diffuser cavity. Impeller sleeves are bonded to the skirt and balance ring. Diffuser sleeves are bonded to the diffuser receptacle and cavity. The diffuser sleeves are of a harder material than the impeller sleeves. Each of the impeller sleeves has upper, intermediate and lower circumferential rows of inserts. Each insert has a face flush with the impeller sleeve and is in sliding engagement with one of the diffuser sleeves. The inserts in the intermediate row may be rotationally staggered relative to the inserts in the upper and lower rows to create serpentine flow paths for well fluid leakage.

A well pumping assembly has a stator mounted in a housing, the stator having an axially extending stator cavity. The stator has windings that when powered create an electromagnetic field into the stator cavity. A pump has a landed position within the stator cavity. The pump having a non-rotating pump portion and a rotating pump portion. Magnets mount on the rotating pump portion and impart rotation to the rotating pump portion in response to the electromagnetic field. A neck on a downstream end of the pump has a running and retrieval feature for engagement by a running and retrieving tool to retrieve the pump from and install the pump in the landed position.

A subsea pump assembly includes a tubular conduit that has an upstream end plate and an inlet for flowing well fluid into an interior of the conduit. A power cable opening extends through the upstream end plate. An electrical submersible pump and motor are in the interior of the conduit. The motor has a motor assembly housing with an upstream end having an electrical insulator opening. An end connection secures the upstream end to an interior side of the upstream end plate with the insulator opening registering with the power cable opening. An insulated electrical connector is mounted in the insulator opening. A motor wire in the motor assembly housing joins to an inner end of the electrical connector. A power conductor extends from exterior of the conduit through the power cable opening and joins to an outer end of the electrical connector.

A submersible well pump assembly has a pump, a motor, and a tubular pressure equalizer housing located between the pump and the motor. A rotatable drive shaft extends within the housing on the axis for driving the pump. A guide tube surrounds the drive shaft, defining an inner annulus between the drive shaft and the guide tube and an outer annulus between the housing and the guide tube. A well fluid inlet path admits well fluid into the outer annulus. A hub assembly is pivotally mounted to the guide tube. The hub assembly has a communication passage with having at least one lateral portion extending away the axis and a communication passage opening spaced from the axis and in fluid communication with the outer annulus. The hub assembly has a counterweight that rotates the communication passage opening to a point above the axis while the axis is horizontal.
