An elongated microwave powered lamp () having one or more bulbs with any length or shape or disposition according to a linear series, straight or curved, includes: at least one transparent elongated bulb () containing, in an inner space thereof, a material apt to be excited by microwave irradiation thereby emitting an electromagnetic radiation; a coaxial microwave antenna placed outside the bulb () and respectively connected to a microwave source () via corresponding antenna lead (), said bulb () and said at least one microwave coaxial antenna being displaced in a close relationship to each other to allow the microwave excitation of said material, wherein the outer tubular conductor of the coaxial antenna () has spaced holes () formed therethrough and facing the bulb (), at which microwaves are released toward the bulb.

Extended microwave powered lamp

An elongated light source envelope is disclosed. The elongated light source comprises an inner wall and an outer wall formed around a longitudinal axis. The inner wall and the outer wall may be connected at a first axial end by a first side wall and a second axial end by a second side wall. The inner wall, outer wall, the first side wall, and the second side wall define an enclosed space internal to the envelope. The light source envelope further comprises one or more walls formed between the inner wall and the outer wall to further form at least a first enclosed region and a second enclosed region within the enclosed space. The first enclosed region may be configured to emit a different spectrum of ultraviolet radiation from the second enclosed region in response to excitation of the first enclosed region and the second enclosed region by microwave radiation.

A microwave surgical device with high energy efficiency produces, at an antenna, an asymmetric heating pattern directed towards the side and it comprises: a plain curved portion extending from the distal end of said external conductor; and an inflection point at said distal end of the external conductor, so that said curved portion has a single cavity directed towards the axis of the coaxial end part.

A UV lamp includes a UV lamp unit including a tubular bulb and an antenna inserted in the tubular bulb, and an antenna lead for supplying microwave energy from a microwave energy source to the UV lamp unit. The antenna lead includes a bent portion, one end of which is connected to the antenna and the other end is connectable to the microwave energy source.

The present invention relates to minimally invasive surgery techniques. It provides a method for manufacturing an antenna for percutaneous acute hyperthermia microwave applications of the monopole or dipole co-axial type provided with trap, commonly called choke, for blocking the propagation of the backwards reflecting wave towards the generator. The miniaturization of the device allows a use minimally invasive for interstitial hyperthermia in medicine and surgery, in particular for oncology. The method of manufacturing the antenna provides a metal needle () for the introduction of the antenna () in the target tissue. On the external conductor () of the antenna () a metal collaris connected in a predetermined position; a plastics sheath () is applied in order to cover the external conductor () in the portion between the feed () and the collar; the inner wall of the metal needlewherein the antenna is inserted is then used for containing and guiding the collarand the sheath; in particular, the collarbeing in electrical contact with the inner wall of the metal needle. An antenna is thus obtained with choke of variable length and with miniaturized diameter. A thermocouple can be introduced through the choke that protrudes the directly in the 'feed' zone.

Interstitial microwave antenna with miniaturized choke hyperthermia in medicine and surgery

A lamp capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation (), for example visible, IR or UV radiation, exploiting the activation of substances () triggered with an antenna () irradiating microwaves () located inside and insulated, in focal position. Advantageously, the substances () are put into a chamber () obtained by introduction of a first bulb () in a second bulb, in order to form the chamber () closed between the walls of the first () and of the second bulb (), the walls of the first bulb defining the recess () which houses the antenna (). A better energy efficiency and a better economy is obtained with respect to the conventional techniques which require introduction of the lamp in a metal vessel crossed by microwaves, or under external microwaves beams. It belongs to the category of lamps without electrodes, because the atoms or the other particles that emit the radiation () are neither in contact with the antenna nor with other metal parts. It characterized by a high duration and by the possibility of emitting radiation of modulated wavelength in continuous or pulsed way.
