A device may receive signal information associated with a wireless signal or charge information associated with a charge level. The signal information may indicate a signal strength of the wireless signal. The charge information may indicate the charge level of a battery of the device. The device may determine whether the signal strength or the charge level satisfies a threshold. The device may configure a parameter or a setting of the device to cause the device to operate according to a long term evolution (LTE) category based on determining whether the signal strength or the charge level satisfies the threshold. The LTE category may be different from a default LTE category of the device and may define an uplink/downlink capability specification. The device may attach to a network in association with configuring the parameter or the setting to cause the device to operate according to the LTE category.

Extending signal coverage and charge duration of a user equipment

A wireless local area network (WLAN) operations status with regard to a wireless access point may be changed for a user equipment (UE). A request, based on changing the WLAN operations status for the UE, may be sent to a base station. The request may cause the base station to send, to the UE, a first message based on the request. The first message may be received from the base station. A second message, based on the first message, may be sent to the base station. The second message may cause the base station to change availability of a radio service based on changing the WLAN operations status for the UE.

Disabling user equipment radio communication over an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during WLAN operations

The re-transmission of transmission units (TUs) received in a communication device over a communication link is controlled to improve the information carrying capacity of the link. A received TU has an associated service characteristic indicative of a quality of service (QOS) for the TU. The service characteristic is associated with a select set of key performance indicators (KPIs), such as measures of packet error, packet delay, packet delay variation, and/or packet loss experienced by TUs on the communication link. Upon receipt of a TU, the performance of the communication link is evaluated with respect to each KPI in the select set to obtain a corresponding measurement value, and the measurement values are compared to corresponding threshold values. Upon determining that a determined performance value does not satisfy a corresponding threshold value for a KPI in the select set, re-transmission of the TU is requested.

System and method for improving information carrying capacity by controlling re-transmissions

A device receives, from mobile devices, scheduling requests for voice packets, and assigns grants to the scheduling requests. The device further determines whether there is network congestion in a network associated with the device. The device also selects a grant, from the grants, when there is network congestion, and drops a voice packets associated with the selected grant. The device assigns physical resource blocks (PRBs) to one or more of the grants that are associated with one or more of the voice packets that are not dropped.

Optimizing capacity during network congestion

A method includes communicating with a first wireless network of a first type, and obtaining a location-based operating parameter from the first wireless network. The method further includes checking the validity of the location-based operating parameter obtained from the first wireless network. If the location-based operating parameter obtained from the first wireless network is not valid, then the method further includes searching for a second wireless network of a second type, and updating the location-based operating parameter from the second wireless network.

An exemplary apparatus includes a modulator configured to modulate a data signal onto a carrier signal to generate a modulated signal having a transmit frequency within a predefined frequency range adjacent to and within a boundary of an uplink frequency band, a filter configured to at least partially remove a carrier frequency component from the modulated signal to produce a filtered modulated signal, and an antenna configured to transmit the filtered modulated signal.

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for reducing spurious emissions resulting from carrier leakage

An approach is provided for mitigating interference from Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) terminals to adjacent frequency bands. A platform determines whether a region associated with transmission of one or more resource blocks are an interfering region according to predetermined criteria, where one or more resource blocks are assigned a primary carrier as a default carrier for the transmission. The platform selects a secondary carrier for the one or more resource blocks instead of the primary carrier if the region is determined to be interfering.

Method and apparatus for providing carrier adjustment to mitigate interference

To support authentication of a mobile device, an application server obtains an application identifier and password and creates an encrypted value by encrypting a combination of the password and a lime based value. The application server transmits the application identifier and encrypted value over a communication network to the mobile device as a credential, and the mobile device sends the credential over the network to a secure server providing an application assistance service. The secure server independently computes an encrypted value by encrypting the combination of the password and the time-based value. If the encrypted value front the received credential matches the encrypted value computed by the secure server, that server grants access to the assistance service for the mobile device.

A method including receiving, by a multiband, multimode user device, a request pertaining to a data flow; determining a state of the multiband, multimode user device; selecting at least one of multiple channels or multiple frequency bands, and a single mode, or selecting at least one of multiple channels or multiple frequency bands, and multiple modes to satisfy the request based on the state of the multiband, multimode user device; and using the selected at least one of multiple channels or multiple frequency bands, and the single mode, or the selected at least one of multiple channels or multiple frequency bands, and the multiple modes to satisfy the request.

To support authentication of a mobile device, an application server obtains an application identifier and password and creates an encrypted value by encrypting a combination of the password and a time-based value. In the examples, at the start of an emergency call, a mobile station determines one or more types of wireless access technologies available from the mobile communication network, from among wireless access technologies supported by the mobile station. Based on a hierarchy regarding ability to determine location of the mobile station using each of the supported wireless access technologies, the mobile station selects an available wireless access technology of the mobile communication network offering the best ability to determine location of the mobile station and initiates a determination of the location of the mobile station for purposes of the emergency call via the mobile communication network using the selected wireless access technology.

Position determination for emergency call from multi-mode mobile station

When a mobile device receives an incoming call from a telephone number: it identifies a number of digits associated with the telephone number and determines whether the number of digits exceeds a threshold. Upon determining that the number of digits exceeds the threshold, the incoming call is identified as an international call and the telephone number is identified as an international telephone number. The mobile device identifies a reference country from which the international call is originated and stores the international telephone number in association with the reference country in its memory.

Assisting a user to store and place a call back to received international number

The techniques disclosed here enable a mobile station device having a plurality of subscriber identities to select an identity for registration with a network for wireless communications in a way that takes advantage of the most favorable roaming agreements between operators. The identity selection algorithm, for example, provides the flexibility to select amongst mobile station subscriber identities of 3GPP2 (1&#xd7;RTT, EVDO) access technologies and 3GPP (LTE/GSM/UMTS) access technologies as well as specific operators' networks for domestic and international roaming. The exemplary algorithms allow the operator to optimize roaming agreements in different markets and maximize revenue from the roaming of its customers.
