A security or identification device comprises a membrane laser structure configured to be optically pumped. The membrane laser structure comprises a flexible emission layer comprising a gain material; and one or more structures formed in or associated with the flexible emission layer and configured to provide optical feedback in the emission layer to produce a laser light output having at least one property representing an identifier.

Laser device

A light-emitting device includes an organometallic complex of the form Z-M-Z, as light emitting material. M is Pd(0) or Pt(0) and Z is a nitrogen containing heterocyclic carbene ligand. Zis a phosphorus ligand or a nitrogen containing heterocyclic carbene ligand that may be the same as or different from Z. The light emitting device may be an organic light-emitting diode (OLED), a sensor, or a light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEEC).

Highly branched dendrimers

An ambulatory device for use in a therapeutic and/or cosmetic treatment, the device comprises an organic light-emitting semiconductor which, in use, covers an area to be treated and emits electromagnetic radiation to cause said therapeutic and/or cosmetic treatment of the area. The light source may be extensive to provide uniform irradiation of the area to be treated and may be pulsed. The device may also include a photopharmaceutical.

Neutral metallic dendrimer complexes

Light emitting devices are described which incorporate, as the light emitting element, a dendrimer of which the constituent dendrons include a conjugated dendritic structure comprising aryl and/or heteroaryl groups connected to each other via bonds between sphybridised ring atoms of said aryl or heteroaryl groups.

A composition is described comprising a mixture of at least two different dendrimers A and B which possess the same core and the same repeating unit or units in the dendrons. The invention provides sensors comprising one or more compounds of formulae (I) and (II):[DENDRON]-CORE-[[X]-[DENDRON]]&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)[DENDRON]-[X]-[DENDRON]&#x2003;&#x2003;(II)wherein CORE, X, DENDRON, DENDRON, m, n, p, q and r are as defined herein. The optical (e.g. luminescent) and electronic properties of the compounds are capable of being altered by exposure to a number of different substances. The invention also provides the use of the compounds disclosed above in the sensing of substances, in particular explosives.
