A transfer surface of an intermediate transfer member in a printing apparatus is treated using an electrical discharge surface treatment. The treatment of the intermediate transfer member is to reduce negative dot gain from a previous image in subsequent printing or increase wettability of a silicone-based release layer.

Electrical discharge surface treatment

In one example, a device comprises an image transfer member, a platen to form a first nip with the image transfer member, a photo imaging plate to form a second nip with the image transfer member, and a controller to determine first information relating to a characteristic of the first nip, and to determine second information for use in adjusting a relative position of the photo imaging plate and the image transfer member on the basis of the first information.

Nip adjustment

In one example, a development cycle of a binary ink developer, BID, is timed. Timing may be based on the length of a substrate in which the image is to be printed or the size of the image or the area to be printed with the ink associated to the BID.

Ink development

A method of balancing current in a developer roller is described. The method includes pulsing voltage to a squeegee roller and a cleaner roller. The pulsed voltage yields a differential voltage at the developer roller after impression. The method also includes pulsing compensating voltage to at least one of the squeegee roller or the cleaner roller to reduce or cancel an accumulated developer current imbalance of the developer roller. The compensating voltage pulses include pulses before or after the impression.

Compensating voltages for electrophotography printing devices

A liquid electro-photographic, LEP, printing system, comprising a photo imaging plate, PIP, an intermediate transfer member, ITM, and a control unit. The control unit causes the system to initiate a maintenance program, wherein the maintenance program comprises driving the PIP and the ITM while disabling particle transfer to the PIP and applying a voltage difference between the PIP and surface portions of the ITM.

According to an aspect there is provided a method for conditioning a blanket in an offset printer, the method comprising during a non-printing cycle of the offset printer, applying a first voltage to an intermediate transfer member of the offset printer, wherein the intermediate transfer member comprises the blanket, and maintaining the first voltage for a first period of time.

Electrical blanket conditioning

In an example, a method of controlling voltage applied to a print blanket within a printing device includes printing a print job. During the printing, a null cycle trigger is received. In response to the trigger, a print blanket bias voltage is reduced from a print bias level to a null bias level.

Adjustments to print blanket bias voltages

Herein is disclosed an intermediate transfer member for liquid electrophotographic printing. The intermediate transfer member may include at least one layer including a thermoplastic polyurethane. A liquid electrophotographic printer and a method of forming an intermediate transfer member are also described.
