An SDDI signal in accordance with an AV signal is selectively recorded in an MO disc of a portable AV editing apparatus from a hybrid recorder provided with an on-line editing function. The user carries the portable AV editing apparatus around separate from the hybrid recorder and uses the SDDI signal recorded in the MO disc to perform off-line editing and prepare an EDL (edit decision list). This EDL is transmitted from the field to the station. The EDL is used for on-line editing at the station.

Portable AV editing apparatus

A method of transmitting news data with script can simultaneously transmit video information and corresponding added information such as gathered news information to a news center from a news gathering field by use of an existing news transmission system. Digital video data, obtained by a video camera in a field, is timebase-compressed, and digital audio data is prepared on the basis of an audio signal. Added information such as script information is prepared as digital added information, and composite news data is generated by time-division-mixing these video data, audio data, and added information data. The composite news data is transmitted to a video receiving station by use of a news gathering system. In the video receiving station, the composite news data is time-division-distributed, and the time-division-distributed data is timebase-expanded, and combined with time-division-distributed audio data thereby to generate a video image signal. Simultaneously, a script, which is a broadcasting script, is generated from the time-division-distributed added information data.

Method of and apparatus for transmitting news data with script

An apparatus selectively operable for reproducing digital information signals recorded in accordance with a first format in relatively long tracks extending obliquely across a first effective recording width of a first magnetic tape, or for reproducing analog information signals recorded on a second magnetic tape in accordance with a second format in relatively short tracks extending obliquely across a second effective recording width which is narrower than the first effective recording width has a rotary drum around which a magnetic tape selected from the first and second magnetic tapes is wrapped to the same extent, playback heads rotatable with the drum scan obliquely across the first effective recording width of the selected magnetic tape wrapped around the drum so that, if the selected magnetic tape has been recorded in accordance with the first format, the playback heads reproduce the digital information signals while scanning the relatively long tracks, whereas, if the selected magnetic tape has been recorded in accordance with the second format, the playback heads scan beyond the relatively short tracks and thereby reproduce noise after the analog information signals recorded in such short tracks, and, when reproducing a magnetic tape recorded in accordance with the second format, the analog information signals reproduced from the relatively short tracks are time base extended so as to increase the duration thereof for eliminating noise.

A tracking control apparatus is capable of decreasing sufficiently the effects of crosstalks in effectively utilizing the azimuth angle by tracking controlling the magnetic head in order that the scanning position of the magnetic head will be deviated to the prescribed direction and quantity. In case of tracking controlling the magnetic head depending upon the first and second error signals formed in order to correspond to the frequency difference element between the pilot signal of the adjacent recording track and the pilot signal of the scanning recording track, since the first and second error signals are to be weighted with the prescribed ratio, the scanning position of the magnetic head can be deviated to the position where the crosstalk of the reproducing signals can be sufficiently decreased for practical use.

An equalization circuit for a reproduced video signal detects the levels of a reference signal in two different frequency bands and, based on a comparison of the detected levels, selects an equalization curve from a memory and controls the equalization characteristic of an equalizer in the signal path based on the selected equalization curve. For a video frequency signal, low-pass and high-pass filters provide the two frequency bands for level checking and for a radio frequency signal two bandpass filters provide the frequency bands of interest located above and below the center color carrier frequency. A memory contains a number of equalization curves, one of which is selected based upon a comparison using the detected reference signal levels that is performed in a central processing unit.

A slew rate converter is provided in a video signal recording circuit for limiting a signal having a high frequency and a high amplitude so as to avoid an over-modulation when the signal is reproduced. The high frequency and high amplitude component exceeding a pre-determined amplitude is detected and applied to the slew rate converter for reducing its slew rate so that the signal component having the high frequency and high amplitude is suppressed.

A frequency modulating circuit comprising a circuit for separating a synchronizing signal from an input signal, a circuit for generating a sampling pulse in accordance with the synchronizing signal, a circuit for producing a frequency modulated signal out of the input signal, and a circuit for detecting the phase of the frequency modulated signal at the timing of the sampling pulse. The level of the input signal is corrected in accordance with the output of the detecting circuit, so that the phase of the frequency modulated signal is locked to a predetermined phase at the timing of the sampling pulse. Consequently, despite frequency modulation of the wide-band input signal, the invention is capable of preventing occurrence of any moire pattern that may otherwise be caused in displaying the demodulated signal.

An apparatus for reproducing from a magnetic tape first and second video signals which are frequency modulated on a carrier, the first video signal having the center frequency of the carrier lower than that of the second video signal is disclosed, which includes a demodulator for demodulating the first and second video signals, a first low-pass filter coupled to the demodulator for filtering the first and second video signals demodulated by the demodulator, the first low-pass filter having a first cut-off frequency, a second low-pass filter coupled to the demodulator for filtering the first and second video signals demodulated by the demodulator, the second low-pass filter having a second cut-off frequency which is lower than the first cut-off frequency, a detector connected prior to the demodulator for detecting whether a reproduced video signal is the first or second video signal and for generating a control signal in response thereto and a switching circuit for selectively supplying the output signal of the first and second low-pass filters to an output terminal in accordance with the control signal from the detector.

When separating a composite video signal into a luminance signal component and the chrominance signal component by the use of filtering, a high frequency cross-talk component of the luminance signal is present in the chrominance signal and this may be cancelled using a horizontal correlator that imparts time delays and detects maximum and minimum levels relative to a reference level. In such luminance cross-talk cancellation by means of the horizontal correlator the usable chrominance signal length is shortened by almost one wave length out of four, thereby reducing the usable chrominance signal each time such luminance/chrominance signal separation occurs in a dubbing operation, for example. By utilizing two chroma separators in series each including a nonadditive mixer circuit, the resultant output from the second chroma separator circuit has substantially the same length as the portion of the composite video signal fed as the input. As a further safety factor in preventing the chrominance signal from being produced with excessive noise, a time delayed version of the composite video signal is level checked with the output of the second chroma separator unit and the signal having the lesser level is produced as the output.

Luminance/chrominance separator

In a circuit for processing a video signal to be recorded, for example, in a VTR, as a frequency modulation of a relatively high frequency carrier, and in which, in advance of such frequency modulation and for the purpose of improving the signal-to-noise ratio particularly in respect to the so-called FM noise, the video signal is pre-emphasized and then clipped at a predetermined level for avoiding over-modulation; a compensating circuit responds to the pre-emphasized video signal for widening those overshoots thereof which are to be clipped and thereby avoiding waveform distortions that would otherwise occur at the locations of the clipped overshoots when the recorded signal is reproduced, frequency demodulated and then de-emphasized complementarily to the original pre-emphasis.
