A head suspension for a hard disk drive is thin from an arm to a head and involves a minimum step between the arm and a load beam. The head suspension includes a load beam that includes a rigid part and a resilient part. The load beam applies load onto a head that is arranged at a front end of the load beam to write and read data to and from a disk arranged in the hard disk drive. The head is connected to read/write wiring patterns of a flexure. The flexure supports the head and is attached to a disk-facing surface of the rigid part. An arm is attached to a carriage of the hard disk drive and is turned around a spindle. The arm supports the resilient part that is attached to a base end of the rigid part. A disk-facing surface of the arm is arranged within the total of thicknesses of the rigid part and head.

Head suspension

A head suspension for a hard disk drive has an arm to be attached to a carriage of the hard disk drive and turned around a spindle, a load beam including a rigid part and a resilient part, to apply load onto a head that is arranged at a tip end thereof to write and read data to and from a disk arranged in the hard disk drive, a base end of the rigid part supported on the arm side through the resilient part, and a flexure having read/write wiring patterns connected to the head, the flexure supporting the head and attached to a disk side face of the rigid part, the resilient part at least separated from the arm side and fixed to an opposite disk side face on the arm side and the flexure fixed to a disk side face on the arm side.

A wiring portion has first and second write conductors, first and second read conductors, and an insulating layer. The first write conductor, first and second read conductors, and second write conductor are arranged three-dimensionally at different height levels in the thickness direction of the insulating layer, in a cross section extending in the width direction of the wiring portion. The distance from the first write conductor to the first read conductor is equal to the distance from the first write conductor to the second read conductor. The distance from the second write conductor to the first read conductor is equal to the distance from the second write conductor to the second read conductor.

To be capable of precisely positioning a head on a track of a high-density disk rotated at high speed in the disk drive, a head suspension has a plate () to be attached to a carriage of the disk drive and turned around a spindle, a load beam () having a rigid part () and a resilient part () and supported by the plate, a front end of the rigid part applying load on a head () that writes and reads information to and from the disk, a flexure () supporting the head, and an extension () having a length (L2) and extending from the plate along the rigid part of the load beam toward the head. The flexure is supported at least by the extension of the plate, and at least supporting the flexure.

The invention is directed toward a method of manufacturing a flexure blank whereby an opening portion is provided in a in a connecting portion of a flexure blank, an opening end portion of an insulating base layer is coated with a conductive member without exposing the opening end portion of the insulating base layer in the connecting portion, and a lower surface of the conductive member of the opening portion in the connecting portion of the flexure blank is structured such as to form the same surface as the lower surface of the insulating base layer.

Method of manufacturing a flexure blank

There is disclosed a disc drive suspension in which a first reference hole and spring portion, and a second reference hole and spring portion are formed in a load beam of the suspension. A third reference hole and spring portion, and a fourth reference hole and spring portion are formed in a flexure. When a first positioning pin of a positioning jig is inserted into the first and third reference holes, the first and third spring portions abut on the first positioning pin, and the load beam and flexure are thereby urged in an axial direction. When a second positioning pin is inserted into the second and fourth reference holes, the second and fourth spring portions abut on the second positioning pin, and the load beam and flexure are thereby urged in the axial direction, and are both positioned.

Flexure blank and method of manufacturing the same

A suspension includes a resilient flexure for supporting a magnetic head slider near its one end, and a load beam with a base end portion, for supporting the flexure. Particularly, connection conductors are formed on the flexure in a thin film pattern, and one ends of the connection conductors are to be connected to the magnetic head slider and the other ends of the connection conductors are positioned near the other end of the flexure. The other end of the flexure extends to at least a position of the base end portion of the load beam.

Manufacturing method of a suspension

A suspension comprises a load beam made of a thin metal plate, a flexure made of a thinner metal plate than this load beam and fixed to the load beam, and a wiring portion. The flexure includes a tongue, and a pair of outrigger portions positioned at both sides of the tongue. A slider is provided on the tongue. The wiring portion includes an electrical insulating resin layer provided on the flexure, and an electrical conductive layer laminated on this electrical insulating resin layer. The wiring portion further includes a middle flexible part along the outrigger portions. This middle flexible part is separated from the tongue and outrigger portions, and is in a suspended state in a slit between the tongue and outrigger portions.

An acculumator having a housing and bellows located within the housing and partitioning the housing into an oil chamber and a gas chamber. A stopper is provided in the housing. The stopper has an oil passage port opposing the free end of the bellows. The free end of the bellows has a self-sealing member which opposes the oil passage port of the stopper. The self-sealing member is made of elastomer. When gas is charged into the gas chamber, the bellows expand, causing the self-sealing member to fit into the oil passage port. As a result of this, back-up oil is confined in the back-up oil chamber defined between the outer periphery of the bellows and the inner periphery of the housing. Hence, the back-up oil supports the bellows as long as the gas is being charged into the gas chamber.

Accumulator

A suspension system according to the present invention comprises a cylinder assembly, which includes a cylinder and a rod fitted therein for axial reciprocation. An oil chamber containing oil and a gas chamber containing gas are defined inside the cylinder assembly. A damping-force generating mechanism is provided in the oil chamber, whereby a damping force is applied to the reciprocation of the rod. A bellows is contained in the cylinder assembly. The bellows includes an oil-resistant body made of an elastomer, and a gas-barrier film made of a material impermeable to gas and formed on the surface of the body. The oil and gas chambers are isolated completely from each other by the bellows.

Car suspension system

In a gas spring apparatus according to the present invention, a cylinder assembly comprises a cylinder housing and a rod fitted therein for axial reciprocation. An oil chamber and a gas chamber are defined inside the cylinder assembly, and the capacity of the gas chamber changes as the cylinder housing and rod reciprocate relatively to each other. A damping force generating mechanism is provided in the cylinder assembly. A flexible bladder includes a body made of elastomer and a gas-barrier film. The film is formed on the surface of the elastomer body. The bladder divides the oil and gas chambers completely. Thus, when the rod reciprocates in the axial direction, relatively to the cylinder, the bladder inflates and deflates. The gas spring apparatus is used for a suspension system of an automobile.

Gas spring apparatus

A first member is attached to the distal end of one of two arm sections of a stabilizer. The first member has a cylindrical bore in which a columnar second member is inserted. A pair of coil springs are disposed between the inner peripheral surface of the bore of the first member and the outer peripheral surface of the second member. The coil springs are wound around the second member. The inside diameter of the coil springs in a non-loaded state is smaller than the outside diameter of the second member. The coil springs have a fixed end and a free end each. The respective fixed ends of the coil springs are fixed to the first member, while the free ends are fitted with an operating member. The operating member is driven by drive including a solenoid. The drive applies a force to the operating member in a direction such that the diameter of each coil spring is increased.
