A fluorescence determining microscope scans the surface of a specimen with laser light. The fluorescence produced is split into components of different wavelengths, and the fluorescence of the respective wavelengths is determined.

A microscope comprises a full field illumination unit, a spot illumination unit using monochromatic light, means for adjusting the area of the spot region being illuminated, a light receptor for receiving light which is transmitted through a specimen, and an arithmetic unit connected with the light receptor for photometry. Full field and spot illuminations are activated simultaneously, and the position of a specimen is brought into alignment with a spot illuminated region while viewing the specimen. The area of the spot region being illuminated is adjusted so that it is substantially in conformity to the outline of the specimen. The arithmetic unit effects a quantitative determination of the total amount of light transmission through the specimen on the basis of an output from the light receptor and the area of the spot illuminated region.

Microscope for quantitative determination of substance in specimen

An apparatus for automatic diagnosis of cells comprises a microscope, a scanning stage on the microscope, a sample carrier used to feed a sample to the scanning stage automatically, an automatic focussing mechanism, a detector assembly for detecting the light absorbance of the sample, and computation means. The computation means controls the operation of the components mentioned and automatically performs the processing of data obtained from the detector assembly, whereby the overall operation from the supply of cells to the diagnostic determination thereof is fully automated.

Apparatus for automatic diagnosis of cells

A scanner comprises a first array of a multitude of optical fibres having one of their end faces aligned along a rectilinear line and having their other end face disposed on a circle, a second array of a multitude of optical fibres having one of their end faces disposed in opposing relationship with the said other end face of the optical fibres of the first array and having their other end faces arranged together at a single location, a scanning disc rotatably disposed between the opposing end faces of the first and second arrays and having a single signal transmission aperture and a plurality of timing apertures formed therein, a single phototube disposed in opposing relationship with the collected end faces of the optical fibres of the second array, and a channel detector disposed adjacent to the timing apertures. The scanner achieves an optical scanning of a specimen to be examined.

Tissues or cells of a living body, especially a human body, are automatically and successively cultivated in a nutrient solution filled culture container disposed in a gas-sealed culture box by detecting, within the culture box, a multiplication condition of the tissues or cells and culture conditions which are represented by temperature, humidity and gaseous atmosphere in the culture box and pH value of the nutrient solution, controlling the culture conditions and apparatus for subculture of the tissues or cells within the culture box in accordance with the information detected.

Method for automatically and successively cultivating tissues or cells

An apparatus for automatically cultivating tissues or cells of a living body comprises a main body the inside of which is maintained in a predetermined atmosphere by an atmosphere control means. A container containing the tissues or cells and a nutrient solution is disposed in the main body and cultivated or multiplied tissues or cells in the container divided and fed for subculture into a plurality of empty cultivating containers disposed in the main body by an operating means which performs necessary operations for subculture. The atmosphere control means and the operating means are totally controlled by an apparatus control means.

Automatic cultivating apparatus

A two wave length, scanning and integration type method of microspectrophotometrically measuring the light absorbancy of a specimen dyed with a coloring matter comprising scanning the specimen by light spots having two different wave lengths and integrating electric signals converted from the light spots traversing the specimen. The two different wave lengths .lambda..sub.1 and .lambda..sub.2 are selected such that at the wave length .lambda..sub.1 the light absorbancy of the absorption spectrum of the coloring matter is maximum and that at the wave length .lambda..sub.2 the light absorbancy is zero and the wave length .lambda..sub.2 is deviated from the absorption spectrum and located near the wave length .lambda..sub.1. A true light absorbancy in proportion to the amount of light absorbing substance at that part of the specimen which is to be measured is obtained by subtracting the light absorbancy produced by the light loss not peculiar to the specimen and caused by the light diffusion due to light reflection, refraction and diffraction in the specimen from the light absorbancy peculiar to the specimen. A two wave length, scanning and integration type microspectrophotometer for automatically carrying out the method of measurement is also disclosed.
