A terminal structure for a storage battery in which a plate terminal includes one end plate portion connected to the electrode pole H of the storage battery, and a led-out plate portion led out from the electrode pole H to a notch D of a cover C. The led-out plate portion is formed into a horizontal plate portion having a bolt insertion hole , and a vertical plate portion vertically bent downwards into an L-shape and having a bolt insertion hole ; and the plate terminal is mounted on a cover face d by the vertical plate portion ; characterized in that a lower-plate portion of the vertical plate portion is provided with engagement portions and is pressed into a snug fit hole provided in the cover C, so as to fix the respective engagement portions in engagement with opposing inner wall faces

Terminal structure of storage battery

A storage battery including a container and a cover. The container is partitioned into a plurality of cell chambers by a plurality of partition walls. Each cell chamber has a cell therein which is composed of positive and negative plates. The negative and positive plates are connected by negative and positive straps, respectively. An intercell connecting conductor connects negative and positive straps from adjacent cells through an opening in the partition wall. Each intercell connecting conductor includes a horizontal base attached to one of the straps, and an ear which extends obliquely upwardly from the base to the opening in the partition wall. The opening in the partition wall and the ear are laterally offset from the base so that they are vertically unaligned with the base. As a result, the forward tip of a welding gun used to weld two ears from adjacent cells together through the opening in the partition wall will not contact the base even when the height of the ear is of a height that would otherwise permit such contact between the welding gun and the base. The battery also includes positive and negative terminals. The walls of the container and the cover surrounding these terminals are lower than the upper edge of the nearest partition wall directly above the opening. Consequently, the terminals can have a reduced height compared to conventional storage batteries, thereby resulting in less resistance and a higher output, as well as a cheaper cost and a lower height.

A cover apparatus for a monoblock storage battery in which a case-shaped cover plate is provided on its reverse surface with a common exhaust passage which is formed between mutually facing walls and is covered with a covering wall and also with baffle walls so disposed outside respective ventilation openings made in the facing wall or walls as to leave respective gaps therebetween, and the respective gaps are covered with a covering wall for obstructing gas generated in cell chambers from flowing directly into the common exhaust passage.

Cover apparatus for monoblock storage battery

A grid base plate and its method of manufacture comprising intermittently conveying a thin elongated metallic sheet longitudinally in one direction through successive first, second and third stations, the sheet being stopped in each of the stations between successive conveying steps. In the first station, the sheet is bent to form a peripheral upwardly projecting portion in a frame region surrounding an inner grid region. In the second station, a plurality of openings are punched in the grid region and in the third station, the sheet is punched along an outer peripheral edge surface to separate the base plate from the sheet. The upwardly projecting portion forms a space with the grid region which is filled with an active material of a thickness determined by the height of the upwardly projecting portion. The upwardly projecting portion has an outer bend region with an end surface constituting a peripheral edge of the frame which faces laterally outwards and is disposed vertically. The outer bend region has a lower surface disposed in the same horizontal plane as a lower surface of an inner region in the vicinity of the juncture of the projecting portion and the grid region. Thereby, when the base plate is placed on a horizontal planar surface, the peripheral frame region will rest on the horizontal surface along two lines of contact respectively at the bottom of the edge surface and at the lower surface at the juncture of the frame region and the grid region.

A splash-proof device for use in a storage battery is a cylindrical member which is provided interiorly with a helical splash-proof baffle for purpose of preventing a liquid spray from being leaked out of an electrolytic cell, and is provided integrally with an electrolytic cell cover. Since a gas escape passage formed in the splash-proof device is made helical, the condensation effect of the liquid spray and the liquid spray leakage-proof effect are both prominent.
