To make connection work be done easily and certainly, and, further, space-saving be achieved, when an optical fiber and an optical module are connected. An optical module includes a connecting face connected with an optical connector and a first diffraction grating, provided in an end part of a first optical waveguide, to convert an optical axis direction of the first optical waveguide to a direction toward an opposing face of the optical connector; in the optical connector, the second optical waveguide is provided in the optical connector along the opposing face toward the connecting face; the optical connector includes a second diffraction grating, provided in an end part of the second optical waveguide, to convert an optical axis direction of the second optical waveguide into a direction toward the optical module; and while the optical module and the optical connector are connected mechanically to make the opposing face of the optical connector oppose the connecting face of the optical module, the first diffraction grating and the second diffraction grating opposing each other and being coupled optically.

Connecting structure of optical module and optical connector

At least two light-emitting elements emit light to a branching device, and the branching device divides the light that entered into an input port into at least two and emits the light from M number of output ports. An optical modulator individually modulates the M number of light beams that were emitted. When a first light-emitting element driven normally fails, the first light-emitting element is stopped and a second light-emitting element that was stopped is driven, thereby maintaining the emission of the modulated M number of light beams.

Optical transmitter and optical communication device

A photoelectric hybrid device includes an optical connector on a flat optical surface at one end of vertical optical waveguides for inputting and outputting an optical signal. Integration of the photoelectric hybrid device into an interposer or the like is standardized. The photoelectric hybrid device includes: conductive pins connected to an electric signal pathway for a photoelectric hybrid substrate; a translucent member having a flat optical surface and a translucent part; and self-organizing optical waveguides that form an optical path between the translucent part and an optical waveguide. The flat optical surface is not lower than the tops of the electrical connection parts on the conductive pins. Collision of the optical connector and the tops of the electrical connection parts can be avoided when an optical connector on which an optical waveguide that transmits an optical signal among the optical waveguides.

Photoelectric hybrid device and method for manufacturing same

Signal conversion device

An optical connecting apparatus has a light source outputting an optical signal indicating a plurality of wavelengths which correspond to a plurality of transmission channels, an optical transmit section and an optical receive section being mounted with integrated circuits and being connected to each other through an optical line of a single system, and a signal conversion section being inlet in the optical line and converting a phase modulated signal into an intensity modulated signal. The optical transmit section includes: a demultiplexer which separates the optical signal from the light source according to the transmission channels; an optical modulator unit which generates phase modulated signals by implementing phase modulation with optical signals from the demultiplexer by using a plurality of optical modulators whose operations are synchronized by a signal from the integrated circuit; and a multiplexer which multiplexes the phase modulated signals from the optical modulator unit and outputs the multiplexed phase modulated signals to the signal conversion section through the optical line. The optical receive section includes: a demultiplexer which separates the intensity modulated signal from the signal conversion section according to the transmission channels; and an optical receiver unit which converts the intensity modulated signals from the demultiplexer into electric signals.

Optical connector and optical coupling structure

A photoelectric composite module has an optical device, a package and a flexible printed circuit that is set along both case parts of the package, and electric wiring for the optical device is formed thereon. The package has a first case part and a second case part that is connected with the first case part by a hinge and is set on a mounted board. The optical device is joined with a surface that faces the first case part in said flexible printed circuit. The flexible printed circuit has light extraction means for transmitting an optical signal that should be exchanged between the optical device and the optical waveguide. The package has short-circuiting means for making a short circuit between the electrical wiring of the flexible printed circuit and the electrical wiring of the mounted board.

Photoelectric composite module and optical input/output device

A surface emission laser is formed by sequentially stacking an n-type semiconductor multilayer reflector, an n-type clad layer, an active layer, a p-type clad layer, and a p-type semiconductor multilayer reflector on a semiconductor substrate. The p-type semiconductor multilayer reflector is etched to form a mesa. An electrode is formed on at least on the mesa side surfaces and a portion of the mesa bottom surface. The thickness of a GaAs film as the mesa bottom surface of the p-type semiconductor multilayer reflector to which an etching process is stopped is set to be (1/4+n/2, where n is an integer) times the oscillation wavelength. A method of manufacturing the surface emission laser is also disclosed.

Surface emission laser and method of manufacturing the same

The invention provides an optical functioning device which emits and receives light, and a driver circuit for controlling the device with light. In the device, elements, in which semiconductor multilayer-film reflecting mirrors are provided at both the upper and lower ends of a pnpn structure of semiconductors and which have light-emitting and light-receiving functions to act as optical resonators, are integrated two-dimensionally each with electrodes which are provided for the and the transistors act as phototransistors into which light is introduced.

Optical control circuit for an optical pnpn thyristor

The invention provides a heterostructure optoelectronic switching device showing a switch operation in response to a light injection for a subsequent light emission. The switching device comprises a pair of first and second bipolar transistors made of semiconductors showing a direct band-to-band transition. Each of the first and second bipolar transistors comprises collector and emitter layers and a base layer having a narrower energy band gap than energy band gaps of the collector and emitter layers. The base layers of the first and second bipolar transistors are connected to the collector layers of the second and first bipolar transistors respectively to allow the device to have a positive feedback feature. The emitter layers of the first and second bipolar transistors are connected to a first terminal. The collector layers of the first and second bipolar transistors are connected respectively through first and second resistors to a second terminal applied with a voltage higher than a voltage applied to the first terminal.

Semiconductor optoelectronic switch and method for driving the same

A light connecting device for routing information uses only light signals. The light connecting device includes photoelectric input/output elements having a light threshold and a light memory, a polarized beam splitter, and light delay circuits having different light delays. The light input signal includes a timing signal and an information signal sequentially input into the beam splitter. The timing light signal is separated from the other signals using the beam splitter and then input into the respective photoelectric input/output elements through the light delay circuits. If the address light signal is incident in synchronization with that of the timing light signal, only the element on which the address and timing lights are simultaneously incident is turned ON and acts as a light amplifier by injecting current to amplify the information signals. Thus, the light connecting device of the invention realizes a self-routing operation using only light signals having the address of information specified by light signals.

Light connecting device and method of driving the same

A matrix of optical functional devices are divided into plural device units. Each of the device units includes at least two optical functional devices having light transmitting coatings. The coatings have transmission factors which are different from each other. Light signals emitted through the coatings from the at least two optical functional devices in each unit are received by a corresponding light receiving device among light receiving devices arranged in a one-dimensional pattern. In each device unit optical functional devices to be driven are selected, so that a coupling degree between each device unit and the corresponding light receiving device is changed.
