The present invention relates to an optical connector and assembly method thereof to provide easier, faster and more stable coupling characteristics without fusion connection nor end-face polishing procedures at job sites. The optical connector includes a ferrule formed of a cylindrical body having a channel along a center axis thereof, the ferrule intermediate section having a cut-away portion, the ferrule with a built-in optical fiber projecting into the cut-away portion; a support member existing within the cut-away portion for maintaining a contact section between the built-in optical fiber and the optical fiber inserted from the backward section; and a locking member for holding together the intermediate section and the support member from the outer periphery of the intermediate section.

A novel optical connector that includes the following: an optical connector ferrule which is capable of fixing optical fibers; optical fibers fixed onto the optical connector ferrule, such that the end surfaces of the optical fibers project beyond an end surface of the optical connector ferrule; an adhesive for fixing the optical fibers onto the optical connector ferrule; and a member whose Young's Modulus is less than that of the optical fiber and is provided to an area on the end surface of the optical connector ferrule surrounding, at a minimum, the projected portions of the optical fibers. And when the end surface of the optical connector is polished, the ends of the optical fibers are capable of projecting from the end surface of the optical connector ferrule, even if the end surface portion of the optical connector ferrule contains a filler, the hardness of which is less than that of the optical fibers.

A skin covered foamed plastic seat capable of structurally preventing the appearance of creases due to the parting lines of the mold. A method of producing a skin-covered pad for a seat, which includes (a) preparing a lower mold which has a cavity formed therein, the lower mold having a first electrode mounted thereto through an insulator, the first electrode having a plurality of projections which are exposed to the cavity; (b) putting a bag-shaped outer skin member into the cavity, the skin member being thermally plastic; (c) putting an upper mold on the lower mold to close the cavity, the upper mold having an aperture formed therethrough; (d) projecting a press member into the cavity through the aperture, the press member having at its work head a second electrode secured thereto through an insulator, the second electrode having at its front face recesses which are shaped to match with the projections of the first electrode; (e) pressing the recessed face of the second electrode against the projections of the first electrode with a part of the outer skin member therebetween; (f) applying a high frequency current between the first and second electrodes thereby to heat and thus soften the part of the outer skin member; (g) separating the recessed face of the second electrode from the projections of the first electrode; and (h) pouring a liquid material for foamed plastic into the cavity and curing the same.

A method of producing a skin-covered pad for a seat is disclosed, which comprises (a) preparing a lower mold which has a cavity formed therein; (b) putting a bag-shaped outer skin member into the cavity, the outer skin member including an innermost foamed layer which consists of first and second parts which are exposed to the interior of the bag-shaped outer skin member, the first and second parts being wettable and non-wettable with respect to a given liquid material for foamed plastic; (c) pouring the liquid material into the bag-shaped outer skin member held in the lower mold, so that the innermost layer of the outer skin member is in contact with the liquid material for foamed plastic; and (d) putting an upper mold on the lower mold to close the cavity.

A method of molding a skin-covered foamed plastic article, which includes by steps putting a bag-shaped outer skin member into a cavity of a lower mold, the skin member including an outer layer and a porous inner layer lined on the outer layer; putting a first upper mold on said lower mold to close the cavity; fastening the lower and first upper molds together with a first fastening force; pouring a foamable plastic material into the bag-shaped outer skin member in the cavity and curing the same; removing the first upper mold from the lower mold after the material is hardened to a certain degree; putting a second upper mold on the lower mold to define a given space therebetween; fastening the lower and second upper molds together with a second fastening force which is greater than the first fastening force; and pouring the foamable plastic material into the given space and curing the same.

Disclosed herein is a mold assembly for molding a plastic article having a recess formed therein. The mold assembly includes a lower mold having a cavity formed therein; an upper mold adapted to be put on the lower mold to close the cavity; a core adapted to be put in the cavity; positioning means including a first member connected to a given portion of the cavity of the lower mold and a second member connected to the core, the first and second members being coupled when mated; and guide means for guiding the core in a manner to facilitate the mating of the second member with the first member.
