In a friction agitation joining method for joining metallic joining members, a joining device having a column-shaped rotor of a larger diameter and a pin-shaped probe of a smaller diameter integrally formed on an end of the rotor and protruded along an axis of the rotor is used for joining the metallic joining members. The probe is rotated and inserted into or around a butted portion of the joining members to soften a contact portion contacted by the probe by friction heat and to agitate the contact portion so that the joining members are butt joined. Each joining member has a thick portion at a butting side thereof The rotating rotor is contacted to the thick portions under pressure to soften the thick portions by friction heat so that a gap formed at the butted portion is filled with the materials of the softened thick portions.

Friction agitation joining method for joining metallic joining members

An aluminum weldment is produced by resistance-welding aluminum workpieces, and has a nugget formed between the aluminum workpieces which contains more magnesium than the base material of the aluminum workpieces. The nugget contains 5.about.17 wt % of magnesium which forms a solid solution with aluminum.

Aluminum weldment and method of welding aluminum workpieces

A brazeable aluminum material is composed of an aluminum core and a brazing agent layer consisting of a brazing agent thermally sprayed onto covering a surface of the core. A number of unmolten minute particles of the brazing agent are present in the brazing agent layer, which contains at least an aluminum-silicon alloy and/or a mixture of aluminum and silicon. Characteristic features of a method of producing the brazeable aluminum material are the steps of: preparing a powder composed of minute particles; and thermally spraying the powder onto the aluminum core in such a state that only a surface of each minute particle is molten, with a pith of the particle remaining unmolten. The powder is an Al-Si alloy and/or a mixture of Al powder and Si powder.

Brazeable aluminum material and a method of producing same

A brazeable aluminum material is composed of an aluminum core and a brazing agent layer consisting of a brazing agent thermally sprayed onto and covering a surface of the core. A number of unmolten minute particles of the brazing agent are present in the brazing agent layer, which contains at least an aluminum-silicon alloy and/or a mixture of aluminum and silicon. Characteristic features of a method of producing the brazeable aluminum material are the steps of: preparing a powder composed of minute particles; and thermally spraying the powder onto the aluminum core in such a state that only a surface of each minute particle is molten, with a pith of the particle remaining unmolten. The powder is an Al-Si alloy and/or a mixture of Al powder and Si powder.

Workpieces of aluminum alloy are resistance-welded while a powdery mixture of magnesium and a metal oxide is being interposed between regions of workpieces of aluminum alloy which are to be joined to each other. The metal oxide may comprise at least one material selected from the group consisting of TiO.sub.2, SiO.sub.2, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO.sub.2, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, CuO, and Ti.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the powdery mixture may include aluminum powder. The workpieces may be made of aluminum, stainless steel, or the like rather than aluminum alloy.

Method of resistance-welding workpieces of metal and resistance-welded

A brazing agent consists essentially of a compacted powder mixture of an aluminum-silicon alloy and a flux, the agent having an apparent density of 90% or more of a theoretical density. Si is contained at about 3-15% by weight of all the elements other than the flux, so that the ratio in weight of all the elements to the flux is from 99.9:0.1 to 70:30. The brazing agent may further contain one or more elements selected from a group consisting of zinc, tin and indium, at about 0.1-5%, 0.01-0.5% and 0.01-0.5% by weight of all the elements other than the flux, respectively. A brazing sheet may be of such a structure that a core sheet made of aluminum or its alloy has at least one surface clad with a skin layer which has a thickness of 10 .mu.m or more for each surface.

Brazing agent and a brazing sheet both comprising an aluminum alloy

In a method of hot brazing aluminum articles, the steps of: interposing an amount of a flux-containing brazing agent (12) between portions of aluminum articles (11, 11) which are to be adjoined one to another; gripping the portions with a pair of heaters (13); and then activating the heater so that heat conducted therefrom melts the brazing agent (12) to braze the aluminum articles (11), are carried out in this order. The brazing agent (12) is a compacted agent composed of a matrix powder and a flux powder, at a ratio in weight of 99.9:0.1 to 70:30, and the agent has a density corresponding to 90% or more of a theoretical value. The articles (11) may be pressed one to another towards adjoining surfaces while they are being heated by the heater (13), or the heaters (13) are slided relative to the adjoining portions so that they are heated wholly, or the adjoining articles (11, 11) are urged towards each other while the heaters (13) are being slided relative to them so as to entirely heat them, so that the brazing is carried out efficiently to manufacture brazed products which are of a higher brazing strength.

Method of hot brazing aluminum articles

A brazing agent comprises an aluminum alloy which contains a flux, the agent having an apparent density of 90% or more of a theoretical density, the aluminum alloy comprises in addition to the flux: aluminum element; and silicon element at about 3-15% by weight of all the elements other than the flux, so that the ratio in weight of all the elements to the flux is from 99.9:0.1 to 70:30. The aluminum alloy may further contain one or more elements selected from a group consisting of zinc, tin and indium, at about 0.1-5%, 0.01-0.5% and 0.01-0.5% by weight of all the elements, respectively. A brazing sheet may be of such a structure that a core sheet made of aluminum or its alloy has at least one surface clad with a skin layer which has a thickness of 10 .mu.m or more for each surface.

An aluminum alloy for heat exchangers, the alloy, comprising a base compostion selected from a group consisting of Al-Mg-Si composition containing 0.1 to 0.8 wt % of Mg, 0.2 to 1.0 wt % of Si and 0.3 to 1.5 wt % of Mn; pure-Al composition; Al-Mg composition containing 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of Mg; and a Al-Zn composition containing 0.05 to 2.0 wt % of Zn. The alloy further comprises 0.01 to 0.3 wt % of Fe and/or 0.01 to 0.3 wt % of Ni, wherein the balance are aluminum of purity of 99.9% or higher and unavoidable impurities contained therein, and content of Cu as one of the impurities is controlled to be 0.05 wt % or less.

Aluminum alloy for heat exchangers

A corrosion-resistant clad material is made of aluminum alloys, and in a preferable mode, comprises: a core which is either formed of an Al-Mn alloy containing 0.5-1.5% by weight of Mn; or alternatively formed of an Al-Mg-Si alloy containing 0.05-1.0% by weight of Mg and 0.05-0.3% by weight of Si. The Al-Mn alloy and Al-Mg-Si alloy further contain, as additional components, 0.05-0.3% by weight of Ti and/or 0.05-0.4% by weight of Zr. The clad material further comprises a skin layer which is formed of an Al-Zn alloy clad onto at least one surface of the core. In another preferable mode, the clad material comprises: a core formed of an Al-Mn alloy containing 0.5-1.5% by weight of Mn; and a skin layer clad onto at least one surface of the core and formed of an aluminum alloy containing 1.3-5.0% by weight of Zn, with or without 0.2-1.0% by weight of Mg, and a balance of aluminum and unavoidable impurities. Cu content as one of the impurities is controlled to 0.05% by weight or less, with the skin layer having a thickness of 30 .mu.m or less.

Corrosion-resistant clad material made of aluminum alloys

A brazeable aluminum alloy sheet consisting essentially of 0.8 to 1.3 wt % of Mn, 0.2 to 0.7 wt % of Si, one or two of 0.04 to 0.1 wt % of In and 0.1 to 2.0 wt % of Zn, the balance being aluminum and unavoidable impurities. The brazeable aluminum alloy sheet is produced by a process which comprises preparing an ingot of aluminum alloy containing 0.8 to 1.3 wt % of Mn and 0.2 to 0.7 wt % of Si, the balance being aluminum and unavoidable impurities, hot rolling the aluminum mass at a temperature of 350.degree. to 450.degree. C. without conducting a homogenizing treatment, conducting a first part of cold rolling on the hot rolled aluminum alloy, conducting a process annealing on the aluminum alloy at a temperature of 350.degree. to 420.degree. C., and conducting a second part of cold rolling on the annealed aluminum alloy at a draft percentage of 20 to 40%.

Brazeable aluminum alloy sheet and process of making same

A heat exchanger comprises tubular elements and fin members. The tubular elements are made of an aluminum alloy containing 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of Mg, 0.2 to 1.2 wt % of Si, 0.2 to 1.5 wt % of Mn, 0.01 to 0.5 wt % of Fe, as necessary components, and further containing at least one of 0.05 to 0.3 wt % of Cr and 0.01 to 0.05 wt % of Ti, as optional auxiliary components, and 0.05 or less wt % of Cu as a controlled impurity, the balance being aluminum and unavoidable impurities. The fin members are made of another aluminum alloy containing 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of Mg, 0.2 to 1.2 wt % of Si, 0.2 to 1.5 wt % of Mn, 0.01 to 0.5 wt % of Fe, and further containing at least one of 0.01 to 0.1 wt % of In and 0.1 to 2.0 wt % of Zn as necessary components, and still further containing at least one or of 0.05 to 0.3 wt % of Cr and 0.01 to 0.05 wt % of Ti as optional auxiliary components, and 0.05 wt % or less of Cu as a controlled impurity, the balance being aluminum and unavoidable impurities.

Heat exchanger

A method of forming a heat exchanger includes brazing heat exchanger components with a flux of non-corrosive fluoride complexes. The components comprise an aluminum alloy having improved brazing characteristics and containing 0.3 to 0.8% Mg, 4.0 to 8.0% Zn, one or more of 0.05 to 0.30% Zr, 0.05 to 0.30% Mn, 0.05 to 0.30% of Cr, 0.05 to 0.30% of Cu, aluminum and unavoidable impurities.

A method for producing corrosion resistance heat exchangers having a plurality of aluminum tubular elements and fin members, the method comprising immersing the tubular elements in a bath with passing an electric current so that the surfaces thereof are covered with zinc layers of 0.3 .mu.m or more in thickness; combining the zinc plated tubular elements with fin members covered with a brazing sheet so that a core is provisionally formed; painting the provisional core with a non-corrosive flux; and placing the provisional core in a furnace to braze the fin members to the tubular elements, and also to enable the zinc layers to diffuse over the surfaces of the tubular elements.

Method for making corrosion resistance heat exchangers

An extruded aluminum alloy improved especially in wear resistance and cuttability and comprising 12 to 30% of Si and 0.3 to 7.0% of Cu, with or without 0.3 to 2.0% of Mg, the balance being substantially aluminum. In this alloy, primary Si crystals 40 to 80 microns in particle size occupy at least 60% of the area occupied by all the primary Si crystals in the aluminum matrix, and eutectic Si crystals up to 10 microns in particle size occupy at least 60% of the area occupied by all the eutectic Si crystals in the matrix. The primary and eutectic Si crystals are uniformly dispersed throughout the matrix. A process for preparing the extruded aluminum alloy is also disclosed.
