A biological information detection apparatus includes a detection unit which has a light receiving unit receiving light from a subject, a light transmitting member which is provided on a housing surface side in contact with the subject of the biological information detection apparatus, transmits light from the subject, and comes into contact with the subject when measuring biological information of the subject, and a diaphragm unit which is provided between the light transmitting member and the detection unit, between the light transmitting member and the subject, or inside the light transmitting member, and narrows light from the subject in an optical path between the subject and the detection unit. A method for determining an appropriateness of a calculated pulse rate is provided. In a pulse rate monitor, a pulse rate calculation part calculates the pulse rate of the test subject based on the result detected by a pulse wave sensor. Then, a pulse rate difference calculation part calculates a difference (pulse rate difference) between a reference pulse rate and a calculated pulse rate, and a deviation degree is determined based on the pulse rate difference. Also, a SN ratio calculation part calculates a SN ratio of a pulse wave signal detected by the pulse wave sensor, and a reliability of the calculation result in the pulse rate calculation part is determined based on the SN ratio. Then, a pulse rate appropriateness judgment part determines an appropriateness of the calculated pulse rate based on the pulse rate difference (deviation degree) and the SN ratio (reliability).

A biometric information processing device includes a heart rate detection unit, a relative heart rate calculation unit, a relative oxygen intake calculation unit, an oxygen intake estimation unit and a calorie expenditure calculation unit. The relative heart rate calculation unit calculates a relative heart rate obtained from a first difference over a second difference, the first difference being by subtracting a resting heart rate of the subject from the heart rate, the second difference being by subtracting the resting heart rate from a maximum heart rate. The relative oxygen intake calculation unit calculates a relative oxygen intake based on the relative heart rate. A body motion detection device is provided that is configured to be attached to a forearm of a user to detect a body motion of the human body to detect body motions of the user. The body motion detection device basically comprises a body motion sensor unit and a body motion component extracting section. The body motion sensor unit is configured and arranged to detect an acceleration caused substantially by a movement of the forearm during walking and an acceleration caused substantially by a movement of the forearm during running to output at least one body motion signal. A first circuit having a first coil electrically charges a second circuit having a second coil through electromagnetic coupling of the two coils. When data signals are to be transferred between the first and second circuits, signal transfer is started only after the second circuit has been charged for a predetermined period of time. The position relationship between the coils is also detected, and a charging/transfer selector changes a duty ratio between charge transfer and data transfer in accordance with the detected result. The charge is transferred in an intermittent manner, and the charging rate is adjusted according to the difference between the voltage of a secondary battery observed during a charging phase and the voltage of the secondary battery observed a certain time after interruption of the charging phase, or vice versa.
