A rigid reinforcement member extends longitudinally along the neck portion of the skate blade holder, to reduce stress and improve force transfer. The blade holder has a longitudinal slot running along the bottom thereof to receive a blade or runner, which is secured in the slot. At least one rigid reinforcement member runs along at last the neck portion, within the slot and above the runner, the slot being enlarged at the location of the reinforcement member(s) in order to accommodate the member(s). Preferably, the reinforcement member is in one piece, including an upper web portion and an integral channel with a cross section in the form of inverted U-shape beneath the upper web portion. The arms of U-shape run alongside the runner, one on either side of the runner, and the base of the U-shape lies against the top of the runner and follows the shape thereof. Preferably, the rigid reinforcement member is of a reinforced plastic composite material, although a metal could also be used. The increased rigidity of the blade holder permits the use of a lighter runner, which may be provided by using a runner with a number of cut-out areas. The cutouts are arranged in a central area between a solid upper area of the runner and a solid lower area of the runner, in such a fashion that the remaining metal in the central area leaves a truss-like structure between the upper and lower areas, the truss-like structure serving to retain most of the rigidity of the runner.

Skate blade and skate blade assembly

A braking system for an in-line skate, where a linkage assembly connects a rotatable boot cuff to a brake assembly which pivots between a retracted position braking position. The linkage assembly includes a drive arm, a transfer bracket and a short connector link. The transfer bracket has three pivot points which are arranged such that the mechanical advantage provided by the transfer bracket in translating downward movement of the drive arm to downward movement of the connector link and brake assembly is less than one in the retracted position, and increases as the cuff is rotated rearwardly to move the drive arm downwardly and the brake assembly towards the ground. Preferably, the connector link rotates over center to a locked position once the brake is in contact with the ground and the cuff is rotated slightly rearwardly. The distance between the cuff and the brake assembly is adjustable so that the desired adjustment of the linkage assembly and braking system can be maintained as the brake pad wears down.

Braking system for in-line skates

Skate blade assembly with reinforcement insert

A skate comprises a boot and an ice skate blade with fixed molded plastics support. The molded plastics support includes a boot receiving means having the outline of the sole of the boot and having a ridge adapted to be fixed to the base of the boot. The support may be fixed to the boot by way of a suitable adhesive, and the boot receiving portion of the support replaces the sole of the boot.

Skate

A sole construction for protective shoes comprises a protective mid-sole and an integrally molded insole and heel plug, the plug portion including a top surface, a recessed bed in the top surface, spaced-apart anchoring projections in the recessed bed and a slot extending through the insole laterally thereof adjacent the plug and communicating with the recessed bed. The mid-sole being coextensive with the insole and including a rearward extension adapted to pass through the slot in the insole and be received in the recessed bed. The rearward extension of the mid-sole includes complementary anchoring seats adapted to be selectively engaged by at least one of the anchoring projections in the bed.

Protective sole assembly

A fastening and locking device structure, particularly for ski boots, comprises a hollow frusto-conical element enclosing the ski boot shell at a middle region thereof. The frusto-conical element extends at a top region into a tongue and laterally to the ski boot into two wings encircling the ski boot middle region and joining together in a groove provided between the sole and the heel region of the ski boot. The frusto-conical element is further fixedly connected with two lugs extending towards the boot heel, whereat they present a tension lever device for fastening them together and tightening the boot flaps.

Fastening and locking device structure, particularly for ski boots

A skate guard having a protective member and a holding member. The protective member has a longitudinal slot on one side for receiving a skate blade and a plurality of recesses on the opposite side. The holding member has means for snapping into any one recess to detachably connect the holding member to the protective member.
