An asymmetric nanocomposite supercapacitor and a method of making the asymmetric nanocomposite supercapacitor. The asymmetric nanocomposite supercapacitor includes a negative electrode with monoclinic tungsten oxide (m-WO) nanoplates, and a binding compound coated on one face of a substrate, and a positive electrode with a carbonaceous material and a binding compound coated on one face of a substrate. Where the face of the positive electrode and the face of the negative electrode coated with the carbonaceous material and m-WOnanoplates, respectively, are separated by and in direct contact with a porous separator.

A GaON/ZnO photoelectrode involving a nanoarchitectured photocatalytic material deposited onto a surface of a conducting substrate, and the nanoarchitectured photocatalytic material containing gallium oxynitride nanoparticles interspersed in zinc oxide nanoparticles, as well as methods of preparing the GaON/ZnO photoelectrode. A hybrid photoactive heterojunction including a copper vanadate, CuVO(CVO) and a zinc vanadate, ZnVO(ZVO). Particles of the ZVO are dispersed in particles of the CVO to form the hybrid photoactive heterojunction. The hybrid photoactive heterojunction in the form of a photoactive film includes a substrate which is at least partially coated with the hybrid photoactive heterojunction. A method of photodegrading a dye includes contacting the photoactive film and the dye in a solution and exposing the solution to light. A method of photoelectrochemically oxidizing water includes contacting the photoactive film with water in a solution and exposing the solution to light.

Nanocomposite supercapacitors and method of preparation thereof

The invention pertains to a method for efficiently spitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using a nanocomposite that includes ((BiVO)&#x2014;(TiO), wherein x ranges from 0.08 to 0.12, and optionally silver nanoparticles; methods for making a nanocomposite used in this method by a simple solvothermal method; and to photoanodes and photoelectrochemical cells and devices containing the nanocomposites.

Hybrid photoactive heterojunction and method of preparation thereof

A one dimensional (1D) nanoarray of SnO nanostructures on a substrate is disclosed. The nanostructures of SnO have diameters of 200 nm-1 &#x3bc;m and lengths of 500 nm-3 &#x3bc;m, and are attached to and substantially perpendicular to the substrate. The one-dimensional nanoarray may have a nanostructure density of 220-300 nanostructures per 100 &#x3bc;msubstrate and a band gap energy of 2.36-2.46 eV. The one-dimensional nanoarray may be formed by anodization of Sn foil in an electrochemical cell subjected to a voltage of 15-25 V for 1-3 hours at room temperature. The formed one-dimensional nanoarray may be used for the photo-electrochemical decomposition of water into Oand H.

Gallium oxynitride-zinc oxide photoelectrode for solar water splitting

A copolymer containing carbazole- and cyanovinylene-based moieties, a photoelectrode comprising a metal oxide substrate and the copolymer as a photoelectrocatalyst component to the photoelectrode, as well as a photoelectrochemical cell including the photoelectrode. Methods of producing the copolymers, and methods of using the photoelectrochemical cell to produce hydrogen gas and oxygen gas through water splitting are also provided.

The InOnanoarray may have a nanowire density of 200-300 nanowires per &#x3bc;mindium foil and a band gap energy of 2.63-3.63 eV. The InOnanoarray may be formed by anodization of indium foil in an electrochemical cell subjected to a voltage of-V at room temperature.
