In one or more implementations, augmented reality content items may be executable to indicate locations of contacts of a user within a camera user interface that is showing content being captured by one or more cameras of a client device. The locations of the contacts may be indicated by representations of the contacts (e.g., avatars) within the camera user interface. The positions of the representations of the contacts within the camera user interface may indicate the locations of the contacts relative to the location of the user of the client device. Navigational tools may also be provided to direct the user of the client device to the location of one or more of the contacts.

Augmented reality content to locate users within a camera user interface

A carousel module that enables a user of an application to access related entities which may be friends where the friends are friends to the user within a messaging system. The carousel module accesses profile information of the friends from the messaging system and makes the profile information available within the application. The carousel module provides new functions related to friends for the user within the application. Methods include a carousel module accessing from a messaging system a list of friends of a user of an application, the list of friends indicating friends of a user within the messaging system. The methods include causing a carousel to be displayed for the user on a computing device and causing a status within the application of the friends of the carousel to be displayed on the computing device.

In one aspect, the method includes causing presentation of a camera interface, the camera interface to display a first image captured by a camera of a computing device of a first user, causing presentation of a plurality of augmentation icons within the camera interface, each of the image augmentation icons being associated with a respective image augmentation mechanism, detecting user selection of an auxiliary augmentation icon of the plurality of image augmentation icons, the second image icon being associated with an second image augmentation mechanism, determining an second image selection criterion for an second image augmentation mechanism, selecting an second image based on the second image selection criterion, the second image being selected from a plurality of photographs associated with the first user, and overlaying the second image on the first image to generate a composite image that is presented within the camera interface.

In one example, a method includes causing presentation of a camera interface, the camera interface displaying a first image captured by a camera of a computing device of a first user of an interaction system, identifying a set of users of the interaction system that are associated with the first user, determining a subset of the set of users that have been active on the interaction system within a determinable time period, causing presentation, within the camera interface, of a graphical element for each user of the subset of users, each graphical element being user-selectable to invoke an augmentation mechanism, detecting user selection of a first graphical element associated with a second user of the subset, and causing presentation, within the camera interface and responsive to the detection of the user selection of the first graphical element, of an augmentation of the first image to generate augmented image.
