A gas sensor for measuring concentration of a predetermined gas includes a light source () arranged to emit pulses of light, a measurement volume (), a detector () arranged to receive light that has passed through the measurement volume (), and an adaptable filter () disposed between the light source () and the detector (). The gas sensor has a measurement state in which it passes at least one wavelength band which is absorbed by the gas and a reference state in which said wavelength band is attenuated relative to the measurement state. A controller is connected to each of the light source, the detector and the adaptable filter to change the adaptable filter between one of said measurement state and said reference state to the other at least once during a gas sensor operation period.

Gas sensors

A field detector () comprises a field-responsive element () which undergoes a dimensional change when exposed to a predetermined field; and an interferometric read-out arrangement arranged to detect the dimensional change of the field-responsive element. A light source () is arranged to provide a measurement beam reflected from the field-responsive element () and a reference beam not reflected from the field-responsive element (), an optical detector () being disposed so as to detect at least part of an interference pattern produced by the measurement beam and the reference beam. The field-responsive element () has a shape comprising a curved surface and is constrained at least one edge () thereof such that the dimensional change causes the curved surface to be displaced in a direction which changes an optical path length of the measurement beam relative to the reference beam, thereby changing the interference pattern detected by said optical detector.

Detection of fields

An optical microphone assembly comprises a rigid substrate; an interferometric arrangement, a light source, at least one photo detector and an enclosure. The interferometric arrangement comprises a membrane and at least one optical element spaced from the membrane, wherein the at least one optical element comprises a surface of the substrate and/or is disposed on a surface of the substrate. The light source is arranged to provide light to the interferometric arrangement such that a first portion of the light propagates along a first optical path via the interferometric arrangement and a second portion of the light propagates along a second different optical path via the interferometric arrangement, thereby giving rise to an optical path difference between the first and second optical paths which depends on a distance between the membrane and the optical element. The photo detector(s) are arranged to detect at least part of an interference pattern generated by said first and second portions of light dependent on said optical path difference. The enclosure is arranged to form an acoustic cavity in fluid communication with one side of the membrane. The volume of the acoustic cavity is at least 3 mm multiplied by d, where d is a diameter of the membrane.

Optical microphone assembly

The present invention relates to a Fabry-Perot interferometer including two plane mirror surfaces mounted in a frame and a system including the interferometer. The mirrors have a known distance between them, and at least one of the mirror surfaces is both partially reflective and partially reflective, where there are at least two actuator units, each including at least one actuator. The first actuator unit is adapted to adjust said distance between said mirrors and the second actuator unit is adapted to modulate said distance at a chosen frequency, both thus providing a variation over a range of mirror distances corresponding to a range of filtered wavelengths in said Fabry-Perot interferometer. At least one of said mirrors is related to the frame through a silicon membrane, at least one of said actuator units comprising a piezoelectric material on said membrane, thus constituting a bimorph or unimorph actuator unit.

Modulated fabry-perot

The present invention relates to an optical gas detector for detecting a gas absorbing light at a known wavelength, wherein the gas detector comprises two essentially identical, parallel membranes defining a volume between them containing the gas to be investigated, and a modulated first light source emitting light at said known wavelength into said volume at a chosen frequency, the detector is adapted to detect relative movements between said membranes and said movements having a frequency corresponding to the rate or a multiple of the rate of said pulsed light source, and wherein the said volume has at least one opening allowing the gas to unrestricted flow or diffuse into said volume.

Noise canceling detector

An optical pressure sensor, such as a microphone, is constituted by two membranes, but where the sound does not arrive perpendicular to the membrane, but comes in from the side. The membranes may be parallel as in a Fabry-Perot or slightly skew as in an Air-wedge shearing interferometer. The pressure sensor uses interferometric readout, and consists of two membranes with essentially equal characteristics, where at least one of the membranes is partially transmitting and partially reflective and the other membrane is at least partially reflective, the membranes being separated by a cavity defined by a spacer part, where the distance between the membranes is variable to provide a shift sensitive Fabry-Perot resonator, and where the two membranes have a common back volume being sealed or essentially sealed in the frequency one wish to measure, and where a pressure increase results in that the distance between the membranes move in opposite directions.

Optical pressure sensor

The present invention relates to a displacement sensor device and the system including the device, wherein the device comprises a first at least partially transparent plane surface with a first diffraction pattern and a second plane surface comprising a second reflecting diffraction pattern. The diffractive patterns being adapted to diffract light within a chosen range of wavelengths, the second surface being positioned below and parallel to the first surface constituting a pair wherein said first and second diffractive patterns being essentially equal, the device also comprising displacement means for allowing a movement in a direction parallel to said surfaces, the device thus providing a movement sensitive diffraction pattern.

Displacement sensor device and system

The present invention relates to an optical displacement sensor comprising a first at least partially reflective surface and a second surface having a diffractive pattern, the surfaces being provided on elements having a variable distance between them, each surface pair defining a cavity between them. The sensor also comprising at least one light source transmitting light at least one a chosen wavelength range into said cavities and at least one light detector receiving light from the cavities, wherein said diffractive patterns are adapted to direct light toward at least one detector provided in a known position relative to said diffractive surfaces.

Optical displacement sensor element

The present invention relates to a gas detector cell unit comprising a gas cell, the unit comprising an outer housing providing access to the gas outside through a protecting filter adapted to making gas cell safe for use in explosive environments, i.e. a sintered filter, and the unit comprising means for detecting reduction in the circulation through said protecting filter.

Gas detector clogging detection

The present invention relates to a gas detector cell and cell unit for optical detection of a predetermined gas, the cell being provided with optical means for investigating a gas sample present in the cell. The cell is constituted by a volume enclosed in a container, at least part of the container wall being constituted by a membrane, the membrane being provided with openings allowing diffusion of gas therethrough, and the membrane openings being provided with a catalyst for converting the gas diffusing therethrough to said predetermined gas.

Gas detector

This invention relates to a system and method for detecting target molecules using an optical sensor element including a photonic crystal constituted by a membrane of a chosen transparent material, being provided with a number of defined openings in a chosen pattern, a chosen number of the openings providing capture molecules having a high affinity to target molecules, the pattern being adapted to provide resonance at a chosen wavelength, or range of wavelengths. The system and method also moving a first fluid flow containing target molecules through the openings and after this conducting a second fluid flow containing a second reactant being different from the capture molecules but having a high affinity for the target molecules but a low affinity for other possible molecules in the first flow. By illuminating the sensor element at a chosen wavelength thus obtaining a resonance and imaging means for providing an image of the sensor element it is possible to detect tight leaking from the resonator. Analyzing means may then detect the captured molecules as well as the reactant having reacted with them based on the amount of light leaking from the resonator.

Protein specific optical detection

The present invention relates to an actuator for moving a rigid element, e.g. an optical element such as mirror, the element being mechanically coupled to a frame with a bendable coupling, wherein actuator elements are mounted on said coupling between the frame and element, the coupling and actuator elements being adapted to provide a movement to the element when subject to signal from a signal generator.
