A packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container or carton, comprising a core layer () and outer, liquid-tight coatings (and) on both sides of the core layer (). The one () of the two outer coatings carries decorative artwork () of printing ink which is both mechanically and thermally protected by a layer () of lacquer applied on the coating () to make possible heat treatment at high humidity and temperature conditions of a packaging container produced from the packaging laminate (), without the printing ink decorative artwork of the packaging container deteriorating in quality.

A packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container, the packaging laminate () including a paper or paperboard layer (), outer, liquid-tight coatings () and an aluminium foil () serving as gas barrier between the paper or paperboard layer () and one of the two outer liquid-tight coatings (). In order to compensate for or counteract possible loss of gas tightness because of crack formations or similar untightness in the tensile-sensitive aluminium foil (), the packaging laminate () includes at least one additional layer () serving as gas barrier between the paper or paperboard layer () and the aluminium foil (). Preferably, said at least one additional gas barrier layer () is bonded to the paper or paperboard layer () by an interjacent lamination or adhesive layer () of polypropylene or other olefin polymer, whereby the thickness or quantity of the additional gas barrier layer () may be reduced without deterioration in gas tightness properties in the finished packaging container.

Packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container

The disclosure relates to a packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container comprising a core layer (), outer, liquid-tight coatings (and) and a gas barrier () disposed between the one coating () and the core layer (). Between the gas barrier () and the core layer (), there is a layer () of a lamination or sealing agent of such a nature that the lamination or sealing agent has a melting point which is higher than the maximum temperature to which the retortable packaging container is to be subjected during a normal heat treatment in a retort. The lamination or sealing agent in the layer () may, for example, be a polypropylene with a melting point of above 130&#xb0; C.

The present invention provides a method for producing a packaging laminate having excellent gas barrier properties. The method involves applying a solution or dispersion of starch or starch derivative to a surface of a substrate of paper or paperboard, and applying a layer of plastic to said starch or starch derivative so as to modify the properties of same such that the starch or starch derivative provides a gas barrier property.

Starch based gas barrier laminate

The invention relates to a packaging laminate having one or more gas barrier layers of starch or starch derivative providing an oxygen gas barrier property of 50, preferably 30 cm3/m2 at 24 h, 1 atm (23&deg; C., 50% RH) or better, said gas barrier layer having a dry coating weight no more than 7 g/m2. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a packaging laminate and to packaging containers manufactured from the packaging laminate.

Gas barrier packaging laminate method for production thereof and packaging containers

The disclosure relates to printing ink-decorated packaging laminate for aseptic packages of the type which is produced in that a web of paper which has an outer coating of plastic is, for the purpose of sterilization, led through a bath of hydrogen peroxide prior to the reforming of the web into aseptic packages. The packaging laminate has a d&eacute;cor of water-based printing ink which is applied in the desired pattern on the outside of the outer plastic coating. For the purpose of protecting the water-based printing ink d&eacute;cor against attack from hydrogen peroxide in connection with the sterilization process, the packaging laminate is provided with an outer layer of water-based polyethylene or water-based acid-modified polyethylene which, by means of so-called dispersion coating, is applied on the printing ink-decorated outer plastic coating after, or in connection with the application of said printing ink d&eacute;cor.
