A fuel injector provided for gas turbine engine has a nozzle including pilot fuel and mains fuel discharge orifice's for respectively spraying pilot and mains fuel flows into a combustor of the engine. The injector further has a feed arm extending to the nozzle for feeding fuel to the pilot and mains discharge orifices from pilot and mains supplies respectively. The nozzle and the feed arm contain one or more pilot passages for flow of the pilot fuel flow from the pilot supply to the pilot discharge orifice and one or more mains passages for flow of the mains fuel flow from the mains supply to the mains discharge orifice. The nozzle and the feed arm contain a plurality of the pilot passages and/or a plurality of the mains passages. The pilot and the mains passages intertwine repeatedly, and are both smoothly curved as they intertwine around each other.

The manufacture of a casing which has a boss includes providing two canister portions a first defining an outer wall geometry of a casing including a boss and a second defining an inner wall geometry of the casing. The casing is made using known PHIP methods. The second canister portion includes an array of holes or recesses which, when the canister portions are aligned, face a recess on the first canister portion which defines the boss such that in the nett shape COS an array of pedestals is provided aligned with the boss. The dimension from an exposed end of a pedestal to an exposed surface of the boss is sufficient to receive a bolt thread of the minimum length required to secure a component to the boss.

Manufacture of a casing with a boss

A method for the manufacture of a component of defined geometry from two or more materials using a powder bed ALM process includes providing a bed of a first powdered material, selectively fusing portions of the first powdered material to build up a first three dimensional portion of the component geometry and fusing a powder containment bund from the first material to contain unfused first powdered material. A bed of a second powdered material is deposited onto the powder containment bund and selectively fused to build up a second three dimensional portion of the component geometry. Unfused first powdered material can subsequently be removed from a first side of the bund and unfused second powder from a second side of the bund. Remaining parts of the bund which do not form part of the defined geometry of the component can be removed to provide the net shape component.

Additive layer manufacturing

A double wall structured combustor having an outer wall having an inner surface and an outer surface and an inner wall comprising a plurality of tiles. Each tile has at least one interlocking member at a first wall and at least one interengaging member at a second wall. The interlocking member extending through an aperture in the outer wall, and the interengaging member at the second wall engaging with a cutaway section in the first wall of an adjacent tile. On assembly of the combustion chamber, the interlocking members and interengaging members of the tiles ensure lower profile fixings and an overall reduction in number of conventional fasteners used.

Combustion chamber

A method of producing cooling apertures in a combustion chamber head includes mechanically drilling a plurality of cooling apertures through the combustion chamber head from the downstream side of the combustion chamber head. A tool is inserted through at least one aperture for a fuel injector from the downstream side of the combustion chamber head and the tool is rotated about its axis while within the aperture for a fuel injector. Fluid is supplied from the drilling machine through the tool and jets of fluid are directed from nozzles in the tool with at least a radial component towards the cooling apertures on the upstream side of the combustion chamber head to remove burrs and/or caps adjacent the cooling apertures. The present disclosure enables cooling apertures to be drilled through a combustion chamber head using conventional mechanical drilling in a viable and cost effective manner.

A gas turbine engine combustion chamber heat shield and seal assembly comprises a heat shield and a seal. The heat shield has an aperture and the seal is located in the aperture in the heat shield. The seal comprises an annular member having an upstream end, a middle and a downstream end. The upstream end of the seal has a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture in the heat shield, the middle has a diameter less than the diameter of the aperture in the heat shield and the downstream end of the seal has a diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture in the heat shield.

A method of manufacturing an annular wall () of a combustion chamber () comprises depositing layers of a metal sequentially one upon the other to form layers of a spiral wall () of the combustion chamber (). Method of manufacturing a wall

A particle damper is formed using a solid freeform manufacturing technique. A filler provides support for the closing wall of the cavity as it is formed. Apertures allow at least a portion of the filler to be removed. A particle fill of between 90 and 95% is achieved either by removing sufficient filler to reach this fill or removing excess filler and re-filling with damping particles.

A combustion chamber includes at least one annular wall. The annular wall includes a plurality of segments and each segment has a first portion, a second portion and a third portion. The first portion of each segment extends circumferentially, the third portion of each segment extends circumferentially and the second portion of each segment extends radially to connect the first portion and third portion of the segment. The segments are arranged such that the first portion of each segment overlaps the third portion of an adjacent segment and the first portion of each segment is bolted to the third portion of the adjacent segment. The segments are cast and define a double wall combustion chamber and enable easier construction of the combustion chamber and replacement of damaged segments.
