A method for operating a hydraulic brake system of a motor vehicle having a brake booster and a hydraulic brake boost wherein a brake pressure is detected and an underpressure, prevailing in an underpressure chamber of the brake booster is estimated on the basis of the detected brake pressure. The hydraulic brake boost controlled based on the estimated underpressure, with the estimated underpressure taking into account an actuation of the hydraulic brake boost.

A method and system for determining the pressure in a brake booster used to actuate a brake system having at least one main brake cylinder. The brake booster connected in a fluid-conducting manner by a non-return valve to an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. A reduced pressure loss in the brake booster resulting from actuation of the main brake cylinder is balanced with the reduced pressure gain in the brake booster as a result of a pressure difference between the brake booster pressure and the intake manifold pressure. The reduced pressure gain in the brake booster is determined based on time, the air mass flow between the brake booster, and the intake manifold.

A method for reducing the braking distance for a vehicle having an anti-lock braking mechanism (ABS) and a hydraulic braking system detects a brake pressure requested by the vehicle's driver (P), and calculates the brakes pressure values at which the wheels of the vehicle lock. A maximum brake pressure value of these different brake pressure values is then compared with the driver's requested brake pressure value (P). If the requested brake pressure value is much higher than the maximum brake pressure value, then the actual brake pressure applied at different wheels (P) is set to a level below the requested brake pressure (P), but still higher than the maximum brake pressure value. This reduces the amount of work required to be done by the ABS in pumping the excessive brake fluid out of the braking system of the vehicle, and allows for precise control of ABS mechanism during wheel slip conditions.

A method for avoiding reducing scoring of the brake disc or the brake drum of a vehicle driven under rainy conditions calculates a product of three parameters, and activates an automatic braking operation for the vehicle, regularly, whenever the product exceeds the pre-determined threshold level. The first parameter is a rain intensity based parameter, a measure of the current raining intensity. The second parameter is a brake-activation-free driving time parameter, representing the time elapsed since the braking system of the vehicle was activated last. The third parameter is a speed parameter, which represents a current speed of the vehicle. As the automatic braking operation is carried out, the particles of dust, water, snow and de-icing substances, adhered to the brake disc of the vehicle, and causing scoring of the brake disc, are quickly removed, thus, reducing disc scoring.
