A chuck includes an integrally molded body member having a nose section and tail section. A plurality of jaws are slidably positioned in angularly disposed passageways in the nose section. A nut is rotatably mounted on the body and is in engagement with threads on the jaws. A reinforcing member is co-molded with the nose section about at least a portion of the outer circumference of the nose section. The tail section extends radially outward to form a gripping surface and axially forward to form a thrust bearing surface in operative engagement with the nut so that the nut transfers rearward axial force to the thrust bearing surface.

Molded chuck

A molded chuck for a hand or powered driver including oblique jaws movable by rotation of a threaded nut engaged therewith to selectively clamp and release a tool.

A driver includes a housing, a driveshaft rotatable with respect to the housing and a chuck. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical body and a nut rotatably mounted relative to the body so that relative rotation between the nut and the body moves the chuck toward an open or closed position. A first sleeve is rotationally fixed to the nut and is axially movable and rotatable with respect to the body. A collar is disposed operatively between the first sleeve and the body. The collar is rotationally fixed to and axially movable with respect to the body and is axially fixed to and rotatable with respect to the first sleeve so that the collar moves axially with the first sleeve and with respect to the body between a first axial position and a second axial position. The collar is rotatable with respect to the housing in the first position and is rotationally fixed to the housing in the second position.

Locking chuck

A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a housing and a drive shaft rotatable with respect to the housing is provided. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical body having a forward section and a rearward section. The rearward section has an axial bore formed therein to mate with the drive shaft of the driver. A generally cylindrical sleeve is received over the body so that the sleeve is rotatable relative to the body. A gripping mechanism is actuatable to a closed position in which the gripping mechanism axially and rotationally retains a tool with respect to the body and to an open position in which the gripping mechanism does not so retain the tool. The gripping mechanism is in communication with the body and the sleeve so that relative rotation between the body and the sleeve actuates the gripping mechanism to one of the closed and open positions, depending on the direction of the relative rotation between the body and the sleeve. A locking mechanism is configured to selectively rotationally fix the body to the housing so that the relative rotation between the body and the housing is prevented while the sleeve is rotated relative to the body.

Enhanced outer chuck sleeve

A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a rotatable drive shaft is provided. The chuck includes a plurality of jaws slidably positioned in angularly disposed passageways in a body member. Each of the jaws has a jaw face formed on one side and threads formed on the other. A nut includes axially aligned threaded sections. Each of the sections is rotatably mounted on the body in engagement with the jaw threads. A generally cylindrical front sleeve member is in driving engagement with the nut whereby the jaws will be moved by the nut when the front sleeve member is rotated with respect to the body. The first section and the second section are rotated with respect to each other when the jaws are in a gripping engagement with a tool shaft.

Chuck with locking unit

A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a rotatable drive shaft is provided. The chuck comprises a generally cylindrical body member. The body member has a forward section and a rearward section. The rearward section has an axial bore formed therein to mate with the drive shaft of the driver. A generally cylindrical sleeve is received over the forward section of the body. A primary retaining mechanism is in engagement with the sleeve and the body member to operatively prevent forward axial movement of the sleeve with respect to the body. A secondary retaining mechanism is attached to the sleeve so that if the primary retaining mechanism fails to prevent forward axial movement of the sleeve with respect to the body, the secondary retaining mechanism is brought to engagement with the body to prevent forward axial movement of the sleeve with respect to the body following the engagement.
