A surgical air vacuum apparatus includes an air pump disposed in a primary air channel for moving air between an inlet port and an outlet port of the vacuum. The air pump has properties for generating heat while moving the air, and the moving air has characteristics for cooling the pump. An air filter disposed in the primary channel has a tendency to block the air that would otherwise cool the air pump. Means is provided for combining a secondary air channel and the primary air channel along at least one passage to introduce bleed air to the pump when the filter blocks the primary channel.

Surgical smoke evacuation system

There is described an improved clean room helmet system including a helmet having an inlet port and an exhaust port. Connected to the inlet port is a portable and mobile pressure filtering system for suppling filtered air to the helmet. A separate portable and mobile vacuum filtering system is connected to the outlet port on the helmet for exhausting and filtering all air removed from the interior of said helmet before exhausting the air into the atmosphere. All air fed to the helmet is filtered and all air exhausted from the helmet is filtered thereby protecting the user from breathing contaminated air. The system also protects those persons in the environment from air being exhausted from the helmet into the environment. A deflector located within the helmet prevents pressurized air entering the inlet port from being fed directly to the exhaust port located on the helmet.

Clean room helmet system

There is described an improved Clean Room System for use with a sterile surgical garment which includes a helmet having an inlet port and an exhaust port. Connected to the inlet port is a portable and mobile pressure filtering system for suppling filtered air to the helmet. A separate portable and mobile vacuum filtering system is connected to the outlet port on the helmet for exhausting and filtering all air removed from the interior of said helmet before exhausting the air into the atmosphere. An exhaust flexible duct is connected at one end to the vacuum filtering system and the other end is extended to a point below the hem of the sterile surgical garment but above the level of the floor. All air fed to the helmet is filtered and all air exhausted from the helmet is filtered and directed away from the confines of the garment thereby preventing reinhalation of the exhausted air and precluding oxygen deprivation to the user.

There is herein described an improved anti-infection shield system designed for the protection of all health care workers from accidental exposure to body fluids from virus infected patients whereby an ultra-light face shield protects the eyes, nose and oral cavity from inadvertent splashing of patient blood or other body fluids, the shield being very light in weight, optically clear, and readily replaceable.

There is described a portable and mobile clean room helmet system including a helmet having a removable face shield connected to a battery-powered filtering system for pulling air from within the helmet and exhausting filtered air to the outside environment. The removable face shield contains a plurality of unique flapper valves that allow air to enter the helmet system while at the same time preventing unfiltered air from leaving the system.

There is herein described an improved laser smoke particulate/odor filter including an upstream gross particulate portion that both filters and disperses the smoke, a single charcoal odor adsorption portion, a downstream particulate portion for removing smaller gross particles, and a final filtering portion for filtering out any remaining undesirable contaminated particulate. Another embodiment utilizes an upstream particulate portion that filters and disperses the smoke followed by a first and second charcoal adsorption portions of unequal sizes that are separated by a second smoke dispersion member disposed between the first and second charcoal odor adsorption portions.

Laser smoke particulate/odor filter system

A portable and mobile multi-stage filtering system is disclosed capable of filtering particulate of the size of one micron. An external canister filter capable of filtering down to at least 0.5 microns is connected to and located external to the cabinet of the airtight filtering system. The cabinet contains a centrally located high speed motor driving a high capacity vacuum pump completely surrounded by thermal and acoustical insulation. The air filtering path includes a plurality of baffles defining a serpentine path for exhausting the air into a series of plenums of increasing volume which communicates with a ULPA filter capable of filtering down to 0.12 micron. The plenums are also surrounded by acoustical and thermal insulation which has the effect of lowering the noise of the filtering system and increasing the efficiency of the total system.
