A method of polymerizing an olefin monomer to make a polyolefin composition comprising a polyolefin polymer, the method comprising contacting a solution of an alkane-soluble non-metallocene precatalyst dissolved in an alkane solvent with an activator so as to make a trim catalyst comprising an alkane-soluble non-metallocene catalyst, feeding the trim catalyst, as a solution in an alkane solvent or supported on a support material as a dry powder or a slurry thereof in an alkane solvent, into a polymerization reactor, and polymerizing the olefin monomer with the trim catalyst in the polymerization reactor, thereby making the polyolefin composition.

The present disclosure provides a method of determining a relative decrease in catalytic efficacy of a catalyst in a test sample of a catalyst solution with unknown catalytic activity. The method includes (a) mixing the test sample with a test solvent to form a test mixture and (b) measuring the increase in the temperature of the test mixture at predetermined time intervals immediately after forming the test mixture. A predetermined feature is used to determine both a test value in the increase in temperature measured in (b) and a control value in a known increase in temperature of a control mixture of the test solvent with a control sample of a control catalyst solution. The relative decrease in catalytic efficacy of the catalyst in the test sample having the unknown catalytic activity is then determined from: Relative Decrease in Catalytic Efficacy=Control Value&#x2212;Test Value/Control Value.

The subject invention provides a process for preparing an olefin polymerization catalyst wherein a calcined and passivated silica support (support precursor) is sequentially contacted with a first solution of a metal complex or of a cocatalyst, and thereafter with a second solution of the other of the metal complex or the cocatalyst, wherein the second solution is provided in an amount such that 100 percent of the pore volume of the support precursor is not exceeded. Optionally, the compatible solvent of the first and/or second solutions is removed. The subject invention further provides a process for polymerizing one or more &#x3b1;-olefins in the presence of the olefin polymerization catalyst prepared by the process of the invention.

Polymerisation catalysts

The invention relates to a polyolefin copolymer composition produced with a catalyst having a metallocene, complex in a single reactor for the polymer of an &agr;-olefin monomer with one or more olefin comonomers, and a molecule weight maximum which occurs in that 50 percent by weight of the composition which has the highest weight percent comonomer content. Preferably, the composition has a comonomer partitioning fact C which is equal to or greater than 1.10 or molecule weight partitioning fact M which is equal to or greater than 1.15. Preferred composition also have at least 0.01 long chain branches per 1000 carbon atoms along the polymer backbone. These compositions with reverse molecular engineering have. superior properties and are easily processable due to the simultaneous presence of the association of high molecular weight with high comonomer content and of long chain branching.
