A method by a telematics device for identifying an asset platform for an asset coupled to the telematics device is provided. The asset has a multi-interface port and the telematics device determines the asset platform based on matching tags on both a primary interface and a secondary interface. Identifying the asset platform aids in obtaining asset data and avoiding operational interference.

Methods and systems of enabling a non-interfering mode in a telematics device are provided. The method may be used to prevent interference between a telematics device and a diagnostic tool connected to the same vehicle communications bus. When a diagnostic tool is detected, the telematics device enables a non-interfering mode. Advantageously, the operation of diagnostic tools such as emissions testing diagnostic tools, is not disrupted.

Systems and methods for tracking and evaluating fuel consumptions of vehicles are provided. The method can involve operating a telematics device installed in the vehicle to: collect fuel data from at least one fuel data source of the vehicle; track, for each fuel data source, a cumulative amount of fuel consumed by the vehicle; determine a confidence level of each fuel data source; identify an initial fuel data source; generate a plurality of mid-trip fuel records; identify a final fuel data source based on a priority of each fuel data source and each confidence level of each fuel data source; determine whether the plurality of mid-trip fuel records is valid; and transmit the plurality of mid-trip fuel records and an indication of whether the plurality of mid-trip fuel records is valid to a fleet management system.

Manufacturer-specific CAN data may be identified by processing defined CAN data having a correlation relationship with the target data and undefined manufacturer-specific CAN data for determining if there is a correlation relationship therebetween.
