A trace risk indicator is determined based on statistical analysis of one or more risk factors associated with a portion of code of a computer program being executed. The one or more risk factors include data of at least one source external to the portion of code. Based on the trace risk indicator having a predetermined relationship with respect to a threshold value, tracing is automatically initiated for the portion of code.

An approach for utilizing a motivational effect value for music on a computing device, the approach involves determining a performance indicator for a first segment of distance traveled, retrieving one or more performance factors associated with the first segment, calculating a first motivational effect value for one or more songs associated with the first segment, wherein the calculating is based on the performance indicator and the one or more performance factors, developing a playlist of music based on a plurality of motivational effect values, wherein the developing comprises at least one of generating a new playlist and modifying an existing playlist, and developing a playlist of suggested music based on receiving one or more motivational effect values associated with one or more groups of users.

A method of distributing messages from a server system to a plurality of client systems comprises defining a quality of service (QoS) level for messages provided by the messaging system to the client system, defining a message processing capacity provided by a client to the messaging system, and degrading the QoS level of messages in the event that the client system does not provide the defined message processing capacity to the messaging system.

Client responsibilities in messaging systems

In a publish/subscribe system, a plurality of publishers provide information on a range of topics and a plurality of subscribers subscribe to one or more topics and topic sets on which they wish to receive information. Subscribers can also unsubscribe from topics and topic sets on which they do not wish to receive information. A subscription matcher such as a message broker is used to generate a subscription list of topic and topic set identifiers&#x2014;from both the subscribe and unsubscribe requests of each subscriber. The subscription matcher then matches items of information from each publisher with topics and topic set definitions in the subscription list of each subscriber, and distributes matched items of information in accordance with subscription lists. The subscription matcher determines precedence between any overlapping subscribed and unsubscribed topics and topic sets based on the sequence in which they were stored.

Managing topical overlap during publication and subscription

A method and system are provided for testing a graphical user (GUI) (). The method includes applying a test step () to a GUI under test () and finding a control in the GUI under test () to which the test step is to be applied. A model () is built dynamically of representations of the contents of the GUI under test () as a new control is found. The method includes finding a collection of dependent controls and representing the collection of controls in the GUI model () as a generalised pattern of the controls. The method applies a test step to the model () simultaneously with the GUI under test () and compares the results of the test step from the GUI under test () and from the model (). If a test step is applied to the model and it is determined that a representation of the control to which the test step is to be applied is not provided in the model (), a building rule () is executed to add a representation of the control to the model ().

Method and system for graphical user interface testing

The present invention provides methods, apparatus and computer programs for event-based control of subscription matching in a publish/subscribe communications environment. Activation and/or deactivation events are associated with subscriptions at a publish/subscribe broker and are used to control when a subscription is active. The broker is responsive to temporally-unpredictable events, such as receipt of a published message on a predefined activation topic, to activate subscription matching for messages that are subsequently received or which have been received earlier and retained at the broker. Conventional subscription matching can be avoided for a registered subscription while that subscription is inactive, and subscribers are not required to explicitly and repeatedly subscribe and unsubscribe.

Event-based activation and deactivation of subscription matching

History of software execution and the associated messages are stored in repositories and their associated buffers. Each level of trace entry is expired at a different, tailored rate. The most detailed log, showing only the information immediately preceding the event, expires most quickly. This means that when the trace buffer is written to some storage medium at the point of failure, the trace entries are more frequent and detailed. However, as time passes, more of the details are lost. Nevertheless, the outline history of events, that would have been lost in the case of a uniform details level of tracing, is maintained. Therefore, information with at least some degree of details will be available further back in time to help the diagnosis.
